What is a good acoustic guitar starter kit?

Six1032

I don't know anything about guitars, reading music, ect. Websits would be good,or whatever could help.

Also...Whats better Acoustic or Electric acoustic guitar?

Thx

Answer
Start with a nylon string acoustic guitar. Buy a high quality, but inexpensive guitar. I recommend Seagull brands starting at $225, but you can get cheaper imports.

Metal strings are hard on the fingers for beginners. Electric guitar is played differently than acoustic. I don't recommend starting with electric.

Get a basic chord book. Find a teacher. You can start learning from anyone who is more experienced than yourself. Play together.

Learn to read tabature. This is where guitar music is written by showing the actual finger positions on the fretboard.

Get a songbook of your favorite tunes.

Never put down the guitar.

are there any do it yourself kits of making a acoustic guitar?

/Slash\

do they make put together kits for guitars?

Answer
Making a guitar is very difficult, and you have to make sure that the sound resonates in the guitar well. It is for this reason that there are no kits for accoustic guitars.

There are some kits for electric guitars though.

What is acoustic and Spanish guitar?

Q. I really don't know ,probably nothing bout it !!
But now I want to know wat is Spanish guitar and acoustic guitar with some examples(songs)??
I want a simple way to understand these !!
Thank you !!:|

Answer
An acoustic guitar is one that doesn't require electronic amplification. In other words, it's not an electric guitar. Many people incorrectly think it means a steel-string guitar. Actually, acoustic guitars come in several types, including some with nylon strings ("classical guitars").

A Spanish guitar is one that is made in Spain. It's sometimes sloppily used, especially by older people, to mean various other kinds of guitars (sometimes classical guitars, sometimes flat-tops as opposed to archtops, sometimes any acoustic! Talking to people of 80 or 90 or reading old books, you'll encounter all of 'em). It's really impossible to tell what anybody means by it unless you have some other clue. It's not a term used by people who know guitars, unless they're talking about one made in Spain.

Answer
Acoustic guitar?YAMAHA?dude, have you heard Andy Mckee? try searching him on youtube, esp. his rendition of "Africa", he's got great masterpieces for acoustic guitar, man! you've got to see him perform in his Andrew white guitar. after seeing him in youtube, visit candyrat.com to see his album and guitar pieces, but i think they're not for free..so sad. anyway, if you really want to learn and "showoff" to other people, i think learning one of his pieces may do the trick. try this URL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dt1fB62cGbo enjoy!

Best Acoustic Guitar for beginners...?

Bobby M

Learning to play the guitar is something that I've secretly wanted to do for a while now. I finally decided to get one, however I'm a bit skint at the moment. I picked one out from Argos, here's the address...

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/0660691/Trail/searchtext%3EGUITAR.htm

I know Argos is obviously not the best place to buy an instrument but like I said... skint. I was just wondering if it would be the right kind of guitar for a beginner? It's an Electric Acoustic guitar, should I go with just a regular acoustic guitar or would it really make a difference? Do they sound the same, only one can be used with an amp? Does it NEED the amp? Obviously I'm not the best when it comes to instruments, this is all new to me.

Also, if buying one from Argos is a complete waste of money, does anyone know where I could get a better guitar for around £100 in the Cardiff area. Any music shops or guitars suggested would be much appreciated, thanks.

Answer
It doesn't seem a very high quality for the price you are paying, but it is allot better to look and touch and feel the guitar that you want to buy and start out with.

My "beginner" guitar was an Alverez, and it cost 975.00 USD. It was very easy to learn on. The best guitars for you to learn with are the ones where the bridge is relatively close to the neck. Meaning that the strings are closer to the frets (the metal bars that run down the length of the neck of the guitar). This will make it VERY easy to push down on them, and you can learn more longer, with out your fingers getting fatigued. THEY WILL GET FATIGUED THOUGH!!! You will have to get used to it and enjoy the music that you learn how to play each day.

Acoustic Guitar Beginner?

Q. I should hopefully be getting an acoustic guitar for christmas, and was hoping i could try and teach myself how to play. I was just wondering how hard it is, and how long it takes to learn, so that you are able to play decently?
& in case any cares, i should be getting this one: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5400674/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CHome+entertainment+and+sat+nav%7C10199181.htm
It comes with a tutorial DVD, so i suppose that is a bonus.

Answer
I would just say if you play because you
love music get a nylon string model. Steel string is very very strict.
You would have to play over equipment and have intentions to play
for regular bands or studies to learn on a steel string, it just is
that different from great pop or rock, classical or ballad guitars.
That are usually nylon by the way. My first guitar was a 40 dollar
nylon from a small shop like a betencourt. The good news is if
you love music the guitar is the best instrument by far. Next show
I am in santana, zeppelin, beatles, bsb, or steve miller stop up and
see reality. We are regular musicians that write through relaxation
meditation, all those skills you learn to hone. Pass code is sold
yamaha, my time 006. For time factor, set sites on 2 years to get
proficient to amuse your peers. 4 years to get out with own style.
2 hours a day is okay for mastering guitars. Jazz local work helps
to get into full reading of music. College course in independent
music jobs skills. You can learn basics with that after 6 months
practical home level. Go for 12 hours a week and definitely learn to read, practice on basic old country club favorites.Next summer enroll would work.

Acoustic Guitars In affordable price range?

Q. Im going to buy a new guitar with my birthday money but im not too sure what to get, I need some idea as to what guitars are good quality. I'm not looking to spend anything more than $500, so what are a few different brands that I should look out for? I have been playing for 2 years now and I really enjoy playing. At the moment I play on a $100 crappy acoustic so I want to step it up a bit.
Thanks :)

Answer
Johnson acoustic guitar for 80$ is what I have now. It is the best guitar I've ever had. I put ernie ball slinky strings on it and it sounds really light and sweet. A lot of how it plays is in the strings.

Where can I buy a affordable, new beginner acoustic guitar?

xoheymoe73

I need to find a guitar that's affordable, new, for a beginner, and acoustic. So if you could give me some links or products or stores, whatever, please do. My price range would be from about $0-$75, but I found some online for way cheaper than $75, but I don't know if they could be trusted. Thanks in advance!!!

Answer
You should try guitar center, if there isn't one locally you can get it shipped to your house, or a pawn shop, but most guitar there are broken and beat down
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Acoustic-Classical---Nylon-Guitars-Nylon-String---Classical-Guitar,50-100.gc
thats the cheapest i could find, but the brand is very importan as well, ibanez is a very trusted brand by many many people, so its a good buy

Good acoustic-electric guitar for 300 dollars or under?

I need to find a pretty nice acoustic-electric guitar with a tuner for 300 or under. any suggestions?

Answer
I own one really similar to this one and love it:

looking for a high quality electric guitar under 300 dollars?

Q. I have been playing an acoustic fender for awhile now and im ready to upgrade to an electric guitar. I have no idea where to start. I am looking for something around 300 dollars or less (new) that still has great sound quality and is attractive. I will mostly be playing metal/pop/rock (if that makes any difference).

Specific guitars would be great instead of general brand names.

Also, information on smaller but great quality amps would be cool.

Thank you! :)

Answer
Epiphone Les Paul is a good inexpensive electric guitar, but I wouldn't go for the cheapest model you can find. Its worth the investment to go more into the 400-500 dollar range, you'll get a much better quality instrument. the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain Top Electric Guitar is a good choice, as is a Fender Standard Stratocaster. Both are around $400. just go to a store and try everything in your price range and see what sticks out to you.
As far as amps go, try a few 15-30 watt amps. About 100-200 would be good to spend on that. If your looking to perform soon with that amp, spend a little more and get a 75-100 watt amp, which should be good for small gigs. Peavey, Line 6, Fender, and Marshall make great amps

Try Justin Guitar, it's a free web site with text and video lessons.
http://www.justinguitar.com/en/BC-001-ChordsPicksBeginners.php

But lessons are the best way to learn, and a great cheap way to get them is at your local community college, or adult school. They are usually geared for beginners, and are sometimes even free.

Tuning my first Acoustic guitar?

papajo

Hello I am a complete beginner.... I just bought an acoustic guitar A 250$ yamaha nothing special... And try to tune it...

I know the procedure you have to take.. (like beginning from the 5th string and making it sound like a 4A (440 Hz) then poushing the 5th fred of the 6th string and then play simultanously the 5th and the 6th string and they should sound the same etc etc)

Ofcourse I am a complete beginner as I said and I dont trust my ears... so I downloaded a prog that uses my microphone to receive sound and tells me what Note it listens too (its called PitchPerfect its not a trial version its free to use no subscriptions etc at www.nch.com.au/tuner/ I am giving the link because maybe you need to see what I am using)

THE NOOB QUESTION: Should All the strings be tuned at the same octave???? like all be (from 6th to 1st) -->4E, 4A, 4D, 4G, 4B ,?E ?? or should they be in any other variance?? like (random example) 3E, 4A, 3D, 4G#, 5B,6E ????

(I am not soure what the numbers are they appear in a small size at the top left of each note in this prog... and I suppose they represend the octaves.. please try the prog its small so that you will understand my problem better)

Please answer me!!!! I thank you in adance

Answer
Your would really benefit from lessons with a teaching professional. He will be able to answer all of your questions and get you started on the road to success.

To answer your question, the strings span two octaves from the low E (6th string) to the high E (1st string). You should use an electronic tuner; the best one for acoustic guitars is the IntelliTouch IT-1. In the meantime, try using one of the many online guitar tuners on the web, like this one:

http://www.gieson.com/Library/projects/utilities/tuner/

This gives you the actual note to tune each string to.

Good luck.

Your Best bet for a beginner guitar would have to definately be an Alvarez, (acoustic, not electric!). That was my first guitar. I now am a fairly good classical guitar player.( Classic is the best way to start off, because if you can play that stuff, you can play anything! Hope I helped!!

Answer
I have been playing guitar for 30 yrs now. I strongly suggest you buy or even rent a very modest acoustic model so if you decide that the guitar is not for you, you at least did not waste allot of money on it. Music can be a very expensive hobby and most people start out with relatively cheap instruments to see if they like it.

Do a thorough google search to look for reputatable dealers online. Just your best judgement then just follow your dreams.

What is a good beginner acoustic guitar for teen girls?

Rachie

I'm 5'1 and my hands are very small. I need a good beginners acoustic guitar for a reasonable price. Also, what size would you suggest for me since my hands cannot fit around a full size guitar? Thanks!

Answer
Rachie,

The best way to find the right guitar is to go and play on several different ones.

You will be safe if you start looking along the lines of a Yamaha, Ibanez, Alvarez, Fender and possibly a Takemine.

I would ask the sale people to assist you in finding acoustics with slim necks, but you will definitely want a full body. Stay away from the small toy guitars.

http://www.all-things-acoustic-guitar.com/beginner-guitar.html covers this topic in depth, as well as many other aspects of the acoustic guitar. You might want to check it out to help in your research.

What is a good acoustic guitar for a beginner?

Q. i'm just starting playing guitar so i wanna get a good guitar so could u reccomend one?

Answer
Guitar is so much fun! it's my favorite intstrument.
Well, most "beginner" guitars are pretty cruddy, and discourage learners from playing! I would say Mitchell guitars are pretty decent though. But if you have the money (these aren't too pricey, but they cost more than mitchell!) try Takamine guitars, those are pretty nice. Also, GOOD knockoffs of high-end guitars (Martin, Taylor, Guild) are amazing! Thats what i have! I love it so much. Most of the good ones you'll find though are vintage and in the 100-300 dollar price range.I have a Martin knockoff, and i wouldn't trade it for any other guitar (Well, maybe an Olson, those things are stinking $40,000!).

Don't give up! Guitar i would say is hardest in the first three months, but after you get over that first hump its all uphill!

I have a guitar channel on you tube- you should check it out. I will be putting up free tutorials pretty soon :)

Beginner at playing acoustic guitar?

Q. I recently bought an acoustic guitar and was wondering what should I learn first. Would it be chords? idk HELP!

Answer
Any guitar playing starts with tuning it first. Once it's tuned, you can start playing it. Guitar is the instrument which requires often tuning because it's stringed. When it's ready, go to youtube and type open chords, beginner chords. Learn them, this will be good practice for you.
This will help you to tune your guitar http://guitar-guide-easy.com/lessons/guitar-basics/item/19-standard-guitar-tuning

Any cheap, good guitars for sale?

Q. ok so im going to try out for the talent show at my school and auditions are in a few days. im in an act where i play guitar. ive had my guitar for a few years. when one of my strings broke, i changed all of them. for some reason i now have to tune my guitar every time i play. i think its tie for me to get a new one but theyre so expensive and i dont have that much money. does anyone know where i can get a cheap but good quality guitar in San Marcos CA? or anywhere near there?

Answer
try this:
take your strings off
with a SMALL file, widen the string grooves on your guitar nut a little. not much, but a little.
then mark in the grooves with a pencil. the powdered graphite acts as a lubricant.
put strings back on, tune, everything should be about 80% better. we cant really give you a good answer because we dont know what kind of guitar you have. but get one only if you want it, most guitars will tune a lot better if you do a little work on the nut.
if you want an acoustic, try a fender. guitar center, sam ash, and smaller music stores should have one. my fander villager sounds great for a chinese guitar.
if you want an electric, try a fender made in japan. not CRAFTED IN JAPAN. about a thousand bucks for any mij fender, these are great value guitars. i have one also.

Average price of an acoustic guitar?

Q. I want to buy an acoustic guitar for 200 dollars, which also comes with picks, a tuner, and others. My mom says that costs too much but I argued with her that they usually cost $300-$500. She wants me to buy a guitar that is the cheapest, which is $100. But wouldn't it be better if I bought the pack with the guitar, tuner, and others?

Answer
The Epiphone DR-100 is a surprisingly good guitar at a very modest price. The MSRP is $182, but right now musician's friend has them on sale for $99. The Epiphone DR-100 Acoustic Guitar is a nicely crafted acoustic guitar that sports a select spruce top and mahogany body and neck. This guitar epitomizes Epiphone's focus on affordable quality. Epiphone builds the DR-100 Acoustic Guitar with chrome hardware, precision construction, and rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays.

Buy your picks and tuner separately. The stuff that comes in packs are junk.

This guitar is great value for the money and it's solid enough that if you stick with playing and move up to a better guitar, you''ll have the DR-100 for a great couch guitar.

What is the difference between the mid-priced and super-expensive guitars?

Q. Would a $1,999 Gibson acoustic guitar sound a lot better than a $199 Ibanez acoustic guitar and $699 Taylor acoustic guitar, or are you just paying for the design and nice finish? If you can be specific, please do.

Answer
A guitar under 200 bucks is, well, no damn good.

200-500 is a GOOD amateur-class guitar.

700-1000 is generally entry-level pro quality.

1000 dollars and up is 'custom' quality. That is, best of everything put together. The highest end guitars can run around 3K. More, and your paying for vintage, usually.

Making that spread a little more complex, some brands are known for having strengths and weaknesses. For example, in the upper end, an Epiphone Les Paul is the real deal, a serious musicians guitar. At the lower end, Epiphone makes junk. Ibanez guitars are famous cost/value guitars... they make cheap guitars of notable quality for the price. Some guitar makers are famous for one model and everything else they do is junk. Some make great acoustics, lousy electrics. Some the other way.

The differences are in woods (although, in guitar woods, it is usually good vs cheap) hardware (chrome is cheap and wears fast, plastic loses finish and eventually breaks, while graphite and steel last forever) electronics (cheap components and wiring over quality) and craftsmanship (a guitar made by human hands will cost more than a manufactured one... usually any guitar under 500 bucks is mass-produced). Finish depends in intended material/look. Some finishes are soooo deep that scratches don't make it far and never show, and are easily filled and buffed.

Rounding out the price factor will be options: passive vs active pickups, locking bridges and tuners, one way or two way trem bars...

So yes... there is a real quality difference between a 199 guitar and a 1999 guitar.

It is generally accepted that NO ONE should buy the cheapest guitars. Novices should start in the 200-300 range. After a year or three, move up to the best guitar you can afford, especially if you intend to play in front of people for money. If you never intend to leave your room no matter how good you get, you can get buy with guitars between 300 and 800 bucks, depending. A novice usually can't appreciate a GREAT guitar. As soon as you play well enough to know the difference, one should start to seriously begin trying as many guitars as possible, to learn your preferences.

As far as cost, you are paying for a guitar that will sound better, physically play better, and require less fanatical care (although you really should be a fanatic anyway) to remain in good condition. TO keep a cheap guitar going, you have to replace some of the hardware every five or so years, depending on use. A 1000 dollar and up guitar is usually configured JUST as you want it, and will never require repairs if you care for it well.

EDIT: Kab's analogy is very good... most of us have 700 dollar guitars that will 'get us there.' And Mikey's right about Gibson acoustics. They are an example of a manufacturer that has a few pet beauties, and their acoustics ride on that reputation without living up to it.

Good guitars under $700?

Q. I'm looking for a great-sounding Acoustic guitar, preferably a cutaway. I've played guitars from Yamahas, Johnsons, Garrisons, Taylors, and some others, but I'm stuck on a Taylor. Just tryin to see what other good guitars I've missed..

Do you prefer Taylor, Gibson or Martin acoustic guitars?

Elizabeth

I've been playing the acoustic guitar for about three months; I play my Dad's, a beautiful Taylor. But I'm thinking of buying my own. So I'm wondering which of these three brands you prefer or have played. Thank you!

Answer
Brands don't matter, it's the sound and tone of the guitar that does. That being said, I've only played Taylor and Martin. From my experience, the Taylor guitars have a much brighter and crisper sound than the Martins, but the Martin's have deeper bass and stronger mid tones.

The type of strings will make a slight difference to the brightness of the tone, which may influence the way Taylors sound because they come stock with Elixer strings; Martin guitars come with Martin strings, which in my opinion are not as bright as Elixers. The type of wood the guitar is made out of will also influence the sound. Most guitars come with a spruce top, which will make the guitar ring.

It's best if you go to a guitar shop and test these guitars out yourself. You can bring your dad along too to help you choose, since you've only just started. Personally, if it's a high end guitar, you can't go wrong with either a Taylor or Martin. If you're going to buy anything under $1000, go with Martin. I recommend the Martin 000x1 or the 00015 (both are excellent guitars and easy to play because of the grand auditorium body size). Just my 2 cents.

Is it true that Taylor makes the best acoustic guitars?

Q. I want a new acoustic guitar for my birthday, even though I know it's still six months away. I just want an acoustic guitar maybe between $499-$699.

Answer
No one makes the best acoustic guitars because ultimately it's a matter of taste. The very best Taylor guitars, actually, come from a small division of Taylor called "R. Taylor." These exquisitely beautiful guitars are all around $4000 - $6000 but are well worth it. However in that price range are other wonderful guitars from Santa Cruz, Collings, Gioodall, McPherson, Huss & Dalton, Froggy Bottom, and others.

You would benefit and probably enjoy a trip to a high end guitar store - one that carries some of the brands I mentioned - just to see and hear what the best acoustic guitars are like. Good luck.

Electric or Acoustic Guitar?

Q. I'm a beginner at buying guitars. I don't have one but, I've been playing family and friends guitars. I've asked them about some guitars, but they're not professionals themselves. I could play both, electric and acoustic guitars and I'm an amateur at both and still learning. I've been looking at some Epiphone and Fender guitars, at the price range around $300-$400 or lower. I'm looking for a guitar that can help me with my song writing (Pop/Rock) and don't know which guitar is better for me, electric or acoustic? So if you know any specific models at my price range and if Epiphone and Fender please tell me, I would really appreciate it. Even if it's a little higher than my price range it's okay.

Answer
Martin and Taylor are my acoustic guitars of choice. Get the dreadnought size to begin with. Martin and Taylor cost more but they will give you less headaches than the others and you can spend more time on your songwriting and less time on guitar maintenance. Also they retain their resell value better than others. If you have to means I suggest the Martin D-28. In the $300 - $400 range I would purchase a Yamaha or Alvarez. Please don't buy an Epiphone or Fender. Fender makes some of the best electric guitars in the world but their acoustic models are less than stellar. Epiphone used to be a good guitar builder but when Gibson bought them they turned Epiphone into a poor product.

Well for a beginner, I wouldn't recommend a Gibson unless it's a really big discount. I would suggest something used and with a low action (easier to play), just to ease you in before you get into the big brand names. I've been playing for a few years with an off brand guitar, but it doesn't really matter since I don't preform publicly or anything.

Start cheap, make sure you really love playing, move up from there.

EDIT: Sorry I didn't recommend any starting brands, just go into a guitar center, the used guitar rooms, see what sounds nice. Talk to the people there (workers or otherwise), they will probably help you.

If your dad can get you an Epiphone (a lower quaility branch of Gibson), then you should probably go with that. You would get a good deal and they are certain to be good quality. Again, go into Guitar Center and play around with models or read reviews on musiciansfriend.com to see what guitars fit your style.

Since it isn't technically "Gibson" I sort of disassociated Epiphone in my mind. haha.

acoustic guitar for beginner?

Q. about 6 months ago i decided to start playing guitar...i didnt really know if it was gonna be a fling or a real new hobby..i bought the maestro gibson guitar(from best buy) since it was just a begginer guitar..but i honestly didnt like it...i dont know if youve ever tried it or if all guitars are like it..but the notes sound so off..even right after tuning..i replaced the strings with eernie ball strings but it just doesnt seem right..
when i see vids of ppl playin guitar it feels so smooth but when i play..i could really lose like a pound every half hour because it takes so much effort to play..
so although im still considered a begginer, any ideas of a good non expensive guitar..give me model types and prices plz..thanx
btw-does anyone know the kind of guitars and how much they cost in this video...i know its prob RLY expensive bt i love the quality..so smooth and very nice sound :)

Answer
Seems like regular Ibanez acoustics in that video. Probably not their cheapest models though, due to the floral neck inlay, but they are not super expensive. What you define as really expensive is of course a subjective matter. The top end acoustic instruments costs $10,000 or more and are hand built.

Also nothing particular about the sound in these guitars. Any decent steel string guitar with fresh strings and a good set-up (well adjusted) should be able to produce at least similar results.

If you go by brands such as Ibanez, Yamaha, Jasmine (by Takamine), Samick or Epiphone and make sure you get a steel string guitar with a solid (all wood) top, you'd be good to go. You should be able to find a good beginner guitar for around $200 and up in the US (they tend to be slightly more expensive in other countries).

Make sure the guitar is being properly set up/adjusted with light strings. Most lower priced instruments needs to be looked over to play well. If you take any guitar right off the shelf and just change strings, it is very likely going to be much harder to play than what is needed.

Only expensive guitars come with a good set up from the factory and even in these instances, the guitars tend to be a little on the "hard to play" side. The reason is that each guitar needs to be adjusted to the person playing it. And if the action (string height) has been set too low, it is much harder to bring it up again.

So, any decent guitar adjustment involves picking the right strings, setting the neck relief (almost perfect straight neck) and then then taking the action/string height down to where it fits the player :-)
