Is there a steel stringed acoustic guitar that uses an amplifier?

katreena19

I saw one of my classmates playing a steel stringed acoustic guitar(maybe...that's what I think it is) and he was able to plug it in an amplifier. If there is no such guitar, is it an electric guitar then?

I want to buy a guitar like that one.

Please answer...thank you!

Answer
It's an acoustic/electric guitar. If you are a beginner here's something that might suit you well http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ibanez-IJAE5-Acoustic-Guitar-Pack?sku=519605

Guitar amplifier cabinets cabs made for acoustic/ electric guitars?

Q. Hello, I am to to amplification of an instrument. I have a Washburn Cumberland Series Jumbo cutaway. I do have a an old head that was made by Genz-Benz. I was wondering, is there not like a 4-10 or a 4-12 cabinet that is designed for acoustic? I find that I can only find acoustic amplifiers with 1 speaker. If I purchased like for an example, A Marshall cab and ran my acoustic through it. Would it be quite disappointing? The head I have is 100 or 200 watts, 8 ohms. Do you folks have any suggestions about what I should be looking for? Thanks Much!

Sam

Answer
What you need is a cabinet as well as an amp built for acoustic instrument amplification. Unless the amp you have is built for specifically for acoustic instruments, or for keyboards, it is highly unlikely to sound good with an acoustic guitar.

Regular guitar amps are built with a different type of sound in mind than what you will need for keyboards, acoustic instruments ... or vocals for that matter. The latter types of amps are designed to play as clean as possible with a good headroom, covering the whole sound/audio spectrum.

Same with the speakers. While electric guitars sound best in the mid frequencies, acoustic guitars are more "broad band", they have a wider frequency.

Acoustic guitar amps are more to compare with a mini PA system - there are usually tweeters or treble horns in the mix.

A regular set-up (like the one you're asking about) will sound very muddy with an acoustic guitar. What you need is a regular PA system, or a dedicated acoustic instrument amp like the Fishman Loudbox.

Of course, you may actually like how your guitar will sound through a regular guitar amp (combo or head and cab). Just plug your guitar into one to get a feel for it :-)

Or here is my local shop if you could tell me which from there is good =)

Or here's another shop
I know this sounds really stupid but I hate the colour of most guitar, they looo kinda ugly lol...Do you think I could get a darker coloured one without having to pay a bunch?

..but it doesn't really matter.

Answer
internet, though it is getting more reliable, is still risky. If there's a pawn shop close to where you live I would go there. Most of them have guitars, they won't be top quality, but they will be cheap. Thats okay because as a beginner you won't need it for anything special, if you get better at guitar then you can go to a guitar shop or online catalog and get a better one.

Whats the best acoustic guitar i can get for 500 dollars?

ted k

Answer
Are you looking for a nylon stringed classical guitar, or a steel stringed? What kind of stuff are you gonna play, country? rock? blues? jazz?

A great overall choice is Taylor. You should be able to find a good one on sale for $500. Martin is another great choice. I've got a couple of Ovations but I hardly use them anymore because they just don't have a rich enough tone for me. Actually, my favorite guitar right now is my Ibanez Steve Vai Euphoria EP9 which usually retails around $1500 but I got mine for $600. You can see a picture of my actual guitar at this site:

http://www.wildwestguitars.com/ibanezacoustic.htm

So, here's what I'd look for...Taylor, Martin, Takamine (yeah, they sound pretty good usually), Ibanez. There are lots of others, of course. Just find one that feels and sounds good to you.

Good luck, happy playing!

i want to buy a new guitar. im relatively inexperienced in playing but i practice every night and im definately getting better every day. right now i own a fender jaguar- which im not crazy about and then i have a gibson les paul standard- which i absolutely love.
i want to get an acoustic guitar or an acoustic electric but i dont really know that much about the brands and what a good quality guitar would be. money is not really an issue for me. im lookin in the 1500-2500 dollar range. i dont plan on ever performing so i dont need a real big loud one but i do want something that would give a good contrast to the ones i already own.
acoustic?
acoustic electric?
what brand?
anyone got any ideas?

Answer
If you aren't going to perform, then you don't need an acoustic electric. Go to a good store and start with a Martin D28 or D18 - that's what they all imitate. Then play Taylors, Gibsons, Alvarez, Guild, Takamine, and Breedlove.
Now, if you aren't near any good stores it's harder. Go to www.elderly.com and look around in your price range - any of the above brands are good. Elderly does a full set-up before thry ship anything. If you don't like the guitar you can return it without any hassle. If it were me, I'd go with a Martin D28 or the Taylor GS8.

Opinions on the yamaha f325 acoustic guitar?

Raytay97

I'm a beginner and looking at the guitar package from Kraft, so any opinions would be helpful!
Thanks!

http://www.kraftmusic.com/yamaha-gigmaker-standard-acoustic-guitar-starter-pack-natural-guitar-essentials-bundle.html

Answer
Yamaha acoustic guitars are a very good deal. They're reasonably priced and well made and typically sound good. I personally would spend a bit more and get one with a solid spruce top, like an FG700S (just under $200). The thing is, you can spend about $160 on the GigMaker pack which includes the F325 guitar, a canvas bag, a few picks, a $10 tuner, a strap and a book/CD. Optionally, you could spend about $200 for a much better FG700S guitar with a solid spruce top, $20 for a padded gig bag, $1 for some picks, $5 for a strap, and about $20 for a good chromatic tuner (I like Korg personally). So for about $90 more you'd have a much better guitar and accessories. In the long run I think you'd be much happier with that.

But for a plywood starter guitar, the F325 is a decent option.

FWIW, I bought my daughter a used Yamaha FG720S (next up from the FG700S and about $280 new) on Ebay for $170. I bought a $20 Musicians Gear gig bag for her to keep it in. It's a far better guitar than the F325 and I got it for about what you'd be paying for that starter pack.

help with finding acoustic guitars?

i want to get an acoustic guitar to so i can learn how to play. alot of people have been telling me that i should start off with a really cheap guitar and then once i get better and actually want to keep playing invest in a better guitar. any advice? anyone have any ideas of brands/types of guitars i should look into?

Answer
The acoustic guitars (either nylon strings or steel strings) are the recommended instrument for beginner guitar players to learn how to play.

The electric guitar is most often use to play chords exclusively and first-time players that start with an electric guitar seldom progress into learning the guitar musical staff or develope skills to play the melody line.

Most all good electric guitar players can do well when playing an acoustic guitar because they started to learn with that instrument.

As to price-be aware that regardless of labels most guitars in the "cheap" price range of Under
$200. are made overseas.

I learned from my son who travels often to China for his company manufacturing business that "brands" mean very little in the lower price range since the
same machinery made exactly the same instrument
with the only difference being the "label".

With that in mind your choice could be determined by the seller return warranty if you buy via internet and the "sound" of the guitars you have a chance to play at the local store. "Playability" and "sound" should be your criteria.Choose Sound over Looks

I have bought guitars via internet with good
results and excellent service.
In the "cheap" price range of Under $200.
I could recommend two web stores:
Rondo Music (www.rondomusic.com) and
West Music Co. (www.westmusic.com)

What Type: As a beginner I recommend a nylon string guitar (also called "classical guitar").
You can play any kind of music other guitars play.

Only difference is the sound is "mellower" than a steel-string instrument and less volume than an electric one.

What's the best acoustic guitar for under 800 dollars?

Zach

I'm a beginner but I'm looking for a good quality acoustic guitar for under $800. I really prefer a Martin or Taylor but am open for other suggestions. I'll be playing and singing country music mostly if that helps.

Answer
A yamaha fg700s would be perfect for you at youre stage and youll have 600 to go towards a martin or taylor for when youve got more experience and are more serious about playing. You wont get a decent martin or taylor with 800. If you want something a bit better than the fg700 then try a seagull s6 or a yamaha fg730s.simon and patrick and takamine are good quality too. For me,these are the best guitar brands under $800 to try out at a few stores. Dont buy a guitar for the name, buy one for the sound and feel.ive had most of the above until i needed better.all i play now is martins as i prefer them to everything else ive played, and ive played a lot and wasted money on a lot.the cheapest quality martin
You can get is a d1gt,everything cheaper is laminate mexico models.

acoustic guitar.....?

Sydney S

ok so which guitar is better the fender or the acoustic???

Answer
Okayy
ima explain this for you since nobody else will

soo first off, a fender isnt a type of guitar
theres Electric, Acoustic, and electric-acoustic

Fender, Gibson, Epiphone, Etc. are all brand names
In other words, They are the manafacturers

Soo, if your question is what is better, electric or acoustic, then the answer is :

Electric guitar and acoustic guitars arent really better than each other because the better guitar for you depends on your style. If you like natural sounds with clean strums and you want to take that guitar t ogo, then choose acoustic.

If you are planning on playing metal (my favorite xD), rock, etc, then choose an electric guitar. Pretty much all electric guitars are the same because their sound depends highly on the type of amplifier you choose. I prefer electric guitar because its also alot louder.

Electric- Acoustics are sort of like a hybrid because you can take them anywhere without an amplifier and still get that beautiful natural acoustic sound that would normally come from a standard acoustic guitar. When your at home and you feel like playing some rock or metal or etc., then you can just plug into your amp and shred.

If your question is "What is the best brand/manifacturer acoustic or electric guitar?" then heres your answer:

There are 3rd party (cheap) guitars who make remedy guitars off of the top-of-the-line makers, Mid class guitar makers or divisions of the high end brands, and the high end (best) brand names. Third party makers such as johnson, brownsville, and vineyard are low quality brands but they are very inexpensive. Then, there are Branches or divisions off of the high end brands. These include Epiphone, Squire, etc. These brands are a part of the high end companies such as fender and gibson, They are pretty good quality guitars and they are mid priced. Then come the high end guitar brands such as Fender and Gibson and Dean and Jackson. These are the highest quality guitars but they may come with such a huge price tag, you can buy 2 used cars with. Fenders can range from poor quality $80-$200 to high quality $1200-$4600. They are over-rated in a way. You would be better off buying an epiphone or squire guitar because they have almost the same quality but come at much, much lower prices. Jackson guitars are my favorite because they have amazing quality and are mid-priced like epiphones.

This applies to both acoustic and electric guitars.

Sooo take this info and share it

My names John V, im 14, and i hope to become a famous guitarist one day. Everyone deserves a chance to play the guitar sooo pass this on. xD

Cheap Student Acoustic Guitars?

Brooke

I want a student acoustic guitar. I don't want a big one, like the full one, maybe a 1/2 or 3/4. i just want to teach myself, or take lessons. And I want a cheap one. Like about 50 bucks. or less. I'm broke, lol, my parents won't pay I'm sure. So you guys know any places near North Normandie? Email me if you know a place or if you want to give me any other info. Thanks! or just answer the question! THANK YOU!

Answer
You have a couple of options.

Unless you're a small person, you'll probably have issues with a 1/2 sized guitar. Some of these are made for kids, more commonly they're made for travel. You can find very nice small guitars, but the sound is always going to suffer versus the full thing.

With that said, you don't have to buy the full-sized Dreadnought, either. Look for a "parlor" guitar or, as you say, a 3/4 size, which is still going feel like a full sized design, but a bit smaller overall.

As for cheap... I wouldn't recommend going overly cheap. It's not simply that you'll get lower quality sound (though you might), but that you may have technical problems with it, which will keep you from playing the guitar.. and the most important thing you can do to learn is practice, practice, practice. I play at least an hour every day.

There are three things I'd do to find a guitar bargain. One is to look at some of the "beginner" models put out by reputable guitar makers. These will be no-frills guitars, but they're of a decent enough quality to get you into learning, and there's little risk.

A bit more risk is the idea of buying a used guitar. You can look at the local classified, on-line resources like eBay or Craigslist, flea markets, yard sales, etc. There are plenty of people who buy a nice guitar, don't play for some years, and finally decide they just want to be rid of it. The risk is of course that there's something wrong with the guitar that you wouldn't notice, or that you buy an off-brand that's really no bargain.

A big help would be if you have a friend who's an experienced player to drag along if you go shopping locally, or to look over something you find on-line. I'm not saying that all off-brands are bad guitars, just that some are really cheap, and without holding it and playing it, I can't tell the difference. If it says "Martin" or "Taylor" or "Gibson" or "Fender" or something similar on it (and assuming it's not a Chinese knock-off), I'm pretty confident there's at least a base level of quality.

A word about eBay... if you look on eBay, you'll find any number of guitars selling for $20, $30, etc. Most of these are "novelty" guitars... they're very cheaply made, not really something you'd want to play. If you spend this little, you're very likely to buy a guitar that will work against you in the learning process (I'll have to admit here I learned on a Martin D-15... about $1300 MSRP.. and I'm still playing it today). The number 1 warning is that there's no brand-name listed.

In fact, if you can, borrow one for a month, get a beginner's book (assuming you don't play at all right now), and just play as long as you can every day (it may not be a hour... you have to put in some time to develop thick calluses and kill off those pesky nerves on the fingertips of your fretting hand). At that point, you'll at least have some idea of what you like and don't like, which will help you make a better decision about the guitar... and that's particularly important if you can't afford even one bad buy. Another option is to buy from a local store that offers a liberal return policy.

Where to get a cheap acoustic guitar online?

Will R

I'm looking into painting some guitars but I don't want to use my own so I was wondering if anyone knows where to get a cheap acoustic guitar from for £20 or less?

Answer
You won't find anything new that's playable for that. If you check the classified ads, you might find something used for that, but that's still pretty low ball. If you aren't willing to spend at least 50 pound, then you don't really want to play guitar. there's no free lunch mate.

Answer
musiciansfriend.com

i've made around 20 orders from them and i've always been happy with their service. they're like the "walmart" of online instrument stores, if you don't mind feeding the monster.

also check out their "stupid deal of the day". there is a washburn guitar today for a low price, i think.. you can compare their price to what it goes for on ebay.
