I have a few songs I want recorded. It's just me singing with my acoustic guitar. Am I better off going to a studio or getting a good usb microphone?
Answer
I would say that this depends on a couple of factors
1. What computer do you use and do you have audio software?
2. Do you have any recording experience up to now?
3. What speakers/headphones will you be using to monitor?
The good thing about buying your own mic would be trial and error and you can record on a regular basis and build up knowledge of recording techniques...
However, if you are looking at releasing a professional quality set of recordings and have no experience then it would definitely pay you to go into a studio to record.
A studio can charge anything from £100-£350 a day so pick carefully!
If you are looking at learning the recording process then the book 'Practical recording techniques By Bartlett and Bartlett.

Hope this helps!
