Guitar beginner, need help learning to play and tips?

I just got an acoustic guitar and I really wanna learn how to play. I know simple chords like d Em, A, c, g and stuff but I need help learning how to play notes any suggestions?

Great to know you are playing guitar! Here are a few things to do!

- Look up your Major, Minor, Harmonic and Pentatonic scales! This will allow you to improvise solos and also figure out chord progressions!
- Remember the names of your strings! Also, remember all the notes on each string! Remember, all notes reset at the 12th fret!
- Learn alternate picking! This will make your playing a lot smoother!
- Make sure your playing fingers are very relaxed. If they are stiff, you will cramp quicker and will also restrict your speed!
- Don't learn hip-hop, pop or rap! :)

For guitar Maintenance:

- Wipe your strings with a cloth after each time you play! It will increase the life of your strings!
- Leave your guitar(s) in an area in which is not too cold, too hot or too humid! If you do, your strings will weaken!
- Replace strings every other week to ensure they do not snap out of the blue!
- If you do not know how to do something, send it to a tech. You do not want to mess up your guitar!
