i want to use the intro off of this- http://www.911tabs.com/link/?5971327 and the chords off of this- http://www.yourchords.com/186709/Rise-Against/Hero-Of-War-ver-5-Chords/ for the same song and make it work together... is that possible?? even slightly at all because I have trouble with G#m and C#m and B cause this is basically my first time ever playing guitar and I can play it all perfect minus those chords
Answer
Hello there,
Second question in the past day or so about G#m, C#m and B. Those are tough chords for beginners. I know the B chord was a tough one for me.
Not sure how that intro will sound with your sound. I found a video about how to play the intro to Hero of War. It does not seem too tough, even for beginners. Unless you really prefer the other introduction, you might try listening to the video. Maybe that will help you learn the intro to your song.

Being a beginner, you are having trouble forming barre chords, so you look for alternate ways to play the chord or other chords that sound similar. We probably all did that in the beginning. I certainly did. Tried everything to avoid learning barre chords. The problem was that the F chord was used in many songs I wanted to learn and I could not find a substitute. That forced me to learn barre chords. It is okay to try substitutes. We play for fun and there are no rules that we absolutely must follow or someone comes to take away our guitar. Just the same, do spend some time practicing barre chords each time you practice. You will have to learn them eventually. Here are some videos that may help. You really do need to learn how to do them to progress.
Here is a video at the Gibson site.

Here is another video at Youtube. I like this one for beginners.

Let me give you another link. This one is a chord chart. Down load the PDF file to your computer. Then you can look through it for various ways to play a chord.

I can give you this suggestion for the B chord, you can substitute a B5 chord or a B power chord.
B Power chord played
Strings E A D G B E
Frets X 2 4
B5 chord played
Strings E A D G B E
Frets X 2 4 4
As for the F#m, and others, Barre chords are probably the easiest way to play those. I have some links to good videos about learning to play barre chords.

Hello again,
There is a lot of good instructional materials available on the internet. Since you are a beginner. let me give you some suggested links to instructional materials.
Here is a link to a series of video lessons. These may help you get the basics down better. This guy has a series of 12 video lessons at Youtube. He covers the basics pretty well. You can find the other lessons in the related videos section there. He uses an electric guitar in the lessons, but most of the material translates very well to the acoustic.

Just in case you have not already learned how to read tabs, here is a link to an article that explains them.

You can also use the search feature at Youtube to find lessons for particular songs. Search the song name and the words how to play or the word lesson. There are a lot of good instructional videos available on Youtube.

Video lessons. Someone suggest Justin. He is good and like his lessons. Here is another that I recommend. This guy has a series of 12 video lessons now available at Youtube. You don't need to go to his website. Disregard his comments about going to his website and signing up so he can send you the lessons. That was from back before they were put on Youtube. You used to have to go sign up and he would email the lessons to you. Now you can see them at Youtube without the hassle of him mailing them to you. He covers the basics very well. He uses an electric guitar in the lessons but most of the material translates very well to the acoustic. These lessons are target at absolute beginners.

When you are ready to tackle some songs, do a Google search of the name of the song and the word tabs. That will give you the sites that have the tabs to that song. Places like Ultimate Guitar Tabs, Ttabs, 911 tabs and the like. Then go to Youtube and do a search there using the song name and the words how to play or the word lesson. You will find a lot of good instructional videos there at Youtube.
