I just bought an electric acoustic guitar, brand: washburn. It came with an inbuilt tuner but I have no idea how to use it.

What does the numbers mean and the flashing lights?
it makes sense the numbers would match how many strings there are but it goes up to number seven and there are only six strings??

Answer
You can usually plug your cord right into the tuner to eliminate outside noises. Turn your keys to adjust the sound pitch up or down until the lights stay in the center. Depending on your style of music each string can be a different note, so find out which notes you will be using, and either tighten or loosen the strings with the keys til they match up.

My acoustic guitar doesnt sound as good as people's guitar i check out on youtube. What could be the problem?

I am a beginner, and sometimes i learn songs on internet. Their guitar sounds very good.
Is it my picking style or tuning keys or what?

Answer
Thank you Baxterville. The second part of your explanation is well founded.

Ever since I began to be involved with these 'Answers' around here, I couldn't stress enough the fact of learning the science of acoustics and the principles of audio reproduction. What you hear is not necessarily what was performed. To the human ears.

Many, many beginners are confused by listening over their PC and TV speakers of others playing their renditions and are actually fooled by these transmissions, performances and broadcasting to where they do not realize the process of transfer of the original sound to the listener. No real fault of anyone in expressing their music.

Too many are trying to copy the sound that they hear and must realize that is is not a live demonstration that is right in front of them, physically, but through many steps in the communication, transmissions or recordings. So, in reality it is different all around and one can only become 'close' to the actual audio presentation.

That is why it is nearly impossible to have the exact same sound from such examples.

So, I would tell beginners to take that cheap guitar where it will demonstrate what has been said and play it in an empty basement, a garage (why garage bands are good for beginners) without the car inside, or a long, hard wall, hallway. This is example of auditorium acoustics and band shell environments.

A bedroom or small practice area as in a music store doesn't allow for the sound waves to travel far and they become 'absorbed' by close quarters and anything added as 'dampers' as carpets, pictures, furniture, etc.
