What is a good song to play on the acoustic guitar?

Answer
Oooh, I have an acoustic, and I love to play songs like this :

Radio : The Corrs

2 AM Breathe : Anna Nalick

Dust in the Wind : Scorpions

Scarborough Fair : Simon and Garfunkel

When the Smoke is Going Down : Scorpions

Skellig : Loreena Mckennitt

Breakaway : Kelly Clarkson

This is the Life : Amy Macdonald

Mr. Rock and Roll : Amy Macdonald

Unwritten : Natasha Bedingfield (it may be a shampoo song, but it's got an awesome plucking pattern!)

That's most of them. If I wrote down all the others I'd have pages of writing. XD

I want to write a song about my boyfriend and I want to write lyrics along with an acoustic guitar part. What are some tips for writing the lyrics? Also, what are some tips to writing an acoustic guitar part to a song? Thanks loves. <3

Answer
Two ways.

1: Lyrics first (recommended)
Start by just writing down everything you want to say. It might be very "poetic" or it might just be very specific. Both make great songs. Do not worry about it fitting into any kind of rhyme pattern or lyrical style. Then, one note at a time, write the music by making a FEELING. Put the words to this. Most of the time what you have written will already fit right in, but if they don't, at this stage you can start worrying about making your paragraph into lines of a song, rhyming (if desired it is not necessary for a high quality song).

2. Music first:
Do not worry about what you want to say to/about him. Just pick one note at a time, or one chord at a time. If nothing is working look up new chords. Create a feeling. Then describe what you are writing about and there are your lyrics.

Tips on acoustic writing: If you are somewhat skilled, folksy riffs sound great with a girl's voice. The great thing about writing acoustic parts is that very simple chords, if played cleanly and perhaps with an interesting strumming pattern, can sound very, very good.
