What is the Difference Between an Acoustic Guitar & a Folk Guitar?

Michael

What is the difference between a Acoustic Guitar & a Folk Guitar? Also, if you can please. Is it "an acoustic" or "a acoustic" ? Thanks.
Thanks. I meant why are they called "Folk"? If I go browse guitars i will find a category for "Acoustic" & "Folk". Why? Thanks again.

Answer
An acoustic guitar is any guitar that has a hollow chamber that makes sound entirely acoustically without need of amplification. There are lots of kinds, including steel string flattops, archtops, and classical (nylon string) guitars.

"Folk guitar" is essentially a meaningless term that is typically used to indicate an acoustic guitar with a smaller body than the more common dreadnought or jumbo size. Something like a grand concert or even parlor size acoustic guitar might be called a folk guitar. The term presumably comes from the fact that many folk musicians - myself included - prefer smaller body guitars.

Where does a guitar cable plug into an acoustic guitar?

Sadie C

I kind of feel like an idiot asking this... But I'm buying an M-Audio Fast Track USB thing to record my songs, and I think I have to plug my acoustic guitar into it? I know that I need an XLR connector for a microphone, but I don't quite understand where a guitar cable is supposed to go into my acoustic guitar... (I have almost no knowledge on the whole recording subject at all, I'm trying to learn some of it before I get started with it, haha).

Answer
An acoustic guitar by itself cannot be plugged in. You will need what's called an "acoustic-electric" guitar, or you will need a guitar pickup that fits in your acoustic guitar's sound hole. If you don't have electronics in your acoustic guitar, you'll know. If you don't have something built in you'll have to get an external pickup or just use a microphone to record from.

If you don't have built in electronics, visit a site like samash.com or musiciansfriend.com to order what you'll need.

Can you string an acoustic guitar With nylon strings?

JULIE

Answer
Nylons string guitars are Acoustic. you should string it with what it is designed for, some guitars are made for nylon strings, others for steel strings. Nylons strings guitars are usually better for classical and finger picking styles, but anything you can play on a regular steel string you can play on a nylon. they do have a different tone, and are not as loud as steel strings. They are easier on your fingers, but will have wider necks and higher action.

Should I learn with an acoustic guitar which has nylon strings?

i_like_to_

or is it better to go straight into the wired ones?

Answer
You are talking about a classical guitar, which has nylon strings instead of steel. The nylon strings will be easier on your fingers. This type of guitar is mostly used for playing fingerstlye. You can play fingerstyle on a steel acoustic but the classical has a softer sound. Electric guitars are fun too because they can produce different sounds. I personally started out with a steel acoustic. I think you should learn on the classical guitar first, that way you don't get frustrated with the pain on your fingertips.

Good acoustic guitar for a beginner?`?

Atoms For

I'm going to be learning guitar over the summer. I have musical aptitude and also play violin so it shouldn't be too bad, but I was wondering what kind of guitar would be best for me to get as a beginner. I don't want to spend too much money on it because it's just going to be a hobby unless I become very good at it. I'm 15, and planning to teach myself and get a few lessons. I'd say my price range is nothing over around $65. You don't have to give me links since I'm most likely going to buy from local music stores, but tell me what brand, type of picks, etc. Thanks so much! :D

Answer
$65 isn't enough. I think the cheapest startup guitar I've seen was a 100$ one.. but seriously you don't want a startup guitar. Save up some more money, ask for cash for your birthday/Christmas/etc., and get one that's at least $200. That way you won't have to deal with cheap parts, low quality wood, etc.

Really, getting a cheap guitar to start is the worst mistake a budding musician can make.

For picks, I like Dunlop picks myself. Get nylon picks because they're essentially plastic but they don't break or wear down at all. And as for the brand of guitar... I personally like Fender and Taylor acoustics but the store will probably let you try out a few.

Seriously though you aren't getting anything for $65 unless you buy some inexpensive wood and make the guitar yourself.

And bring someone who has played guitar for a while(not that kid down the block that smokes weed and plays Nirvanah all day), who is at least semi-serious about it. I'd say 3 years of playing should be enough to know what makes a good or bad guitar.

If you get a bad guitar, it will be frustrating and you won't have any fun. Look at it this way, do you want to spend half your playing time just trying to keep the thing in tune?

Oh and lessons wise, just use Ultimate-Guitar.com and Youtube. UG is great, has thousands of lessons(most of which are high quality) for free, and has a great userbase and forum to ask questions to. Youtube has videos if you're a strictly visual learner, and a lot of the lessons on there are pretty good.

Drop me an email if you need anything else or have any other questions.

I am a very determined person when I want to learn something...So if you can please give me links to under 100$ acoustic guitars ide appreciate it. Also ive been thinking this tho its a little pricey :/ http://www.guitarcenter.com/Jasmine-by-Takamine-S35-Acoustic-Guitar-101114072-i1148991.gc or this or http://www.guitarcenter.com/In-Store-Used-USED-YAMAHA-F36P-WB-106575392-i1921752.gc so if you can give me your opinion on both of them Ide also appreciate it

Answer
Go to the music store and check out the Epiphone DR-100. They average at about $100 and are probably the best acoustic you can get on that budget.

Need help choosing the right electric guitar.Your advice and suggestions would be much appreciated. THANKS?

Q. well..i've recently been saving up for a new electric (my budget is approx$500) ive been an acoustic player for around a year and like to make a switch. Over the past few weeks ive been heavily influenced by metal. i was wondering if anyone could give me some electric guitar suggestions, good brands, what to look for, other little gadgets, good AMPs and stuff like that. Maybe even recommend a store
(i live in Australia, melbourne VIC) if that helps

Your suggestions and advice will be greatly appreciated Thanks..

Answer
If you need an amplifier and a guitar for $500, my advice is to wait, save another $500 to $1,000 for a total of $1,000 to $1,500 and then shop around for something. Right now, your budget will only allow you to buy a guitar and amplifier that you will not be happy with for very long. Why? The guitar will have cheap hardware and pickups on it that won't stay in tune well and will not sound that good and the cheaper guitars will often not play very well and are harder to adjust. That equipment will not have a good resale value either so, you won't get your money back out if when you decide to trade up.

If you just can't wait and have to have something now, then spend no more than $200 for the guitar because the Amp is going to cast at least $300. A cheaper amp falls into the practice amp category and is only good for playing in your bedroom. You want an amp that you can actually practice with a band and perhaps even play somewhere with.

A somewhat decent $200 guitar is the NEW Ibanez ART 120. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=9&sqi=2&ved=0CDQQtwIwCA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DuuLTzyAM_BY&rct=j&q=Ibanez%20ART120&ei=Gd_OTPPXLsH6lweSkonlCA&usg=AFQjCNHeHn8rx20qM0fpUBrNA8BUlvnp4w&cad=rja
And, for around $300, there are only two amplifiers worth considering that that is the Fender Frontman 212R - http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Frontman-212R-100W-2x12-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=481601 - and the Line 6 Spider IV - http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Line-6-Spider-IV-75-75W-1x12-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=620210

What is a good, inexpensive acoustic guitar brand?

Q. My price range is $100-$300. I love Gibson, but their cheapest is about $1,000.

Answer
Funny you should ask, I just got back from Guitar World to buy a guitar for my wife (for Christmas). My dad (who has played guitar his whole life) suggested Fender and they had a great deal (100 bucks for the guitar plus a bunch of extras). Might try that.

What brand makes the best acoustic guitar?

Karsey J

I'm just starting out, but i would like a quality guitar with the best sound possible. Your opinions and suggestions are very much appreciated =)

Answer
The best acoustic guitar in the world is an Olson, but you'll have to be a celebrity and on a very long waiting list to even dream about getting one. This is what James Taylor and other use. I've heard it in a recording studio--unreal (it was $10k used!)

For what you're looking for though I would advise dependent on price range:

Cheap: They're almost all the same, but Fender makes a solid top starter
Intermediate:(Acoustic/Electric): Takamine
Expensive: Taylor--but try to find one with a blended pick up system, not the "expression" system; 700 series for finger picking and 800 series for strumming. Or you could go Martin if you lean towards bluegrass.

What is a good acoustic guitar for a self taught intermediate player?

tori2

I'm looking to get a new guitar because, well mine sucks, but I don't really know much about them. I don't really wanna spend over $500. I am all self taught and by no means a great guitarist, just happily proficient. I play at my church, so chords are the only thing really necessary.
Any suggestions would be super helpful:)
Thanks so much!

Answer
Go to your local music store. There are many options available to you there. The Ibanez line has many great models for under $500 new. Many female players like Ibanez because they are known for their slim fast neck, which is a plus for those with smaller hands. Epiphone and Yamaha also have excellent guitars in your price range.

You may wish to consider purchasing a used guitar. For your budget, you could get a much better guitar. For your budget, you could possibly get a Gibson, Martin, Washburn or even a lower end Taylor. The best way to find the best guitar for you is just to go to the local music store and play every guitar, new and used, that fits your budget. You will know the right one when you play it.

decent acoustic guitar for $200 (intermediate player)?

Zoe ;P

I'm sorta an intermediate player. I had a fender electric-acoustic but it got stolen and with the insurance money i just bought a full electric (yamaha pacifica) but i miss the sound of acoustic guitars and i'm going camping soon and would like to take an acoustic guitar for around the campfire. so yeah, whats a nice sounding acoustic guitar that doesn't fall to pieces or get out of tune too easily for 200 dollars or less?

Answer
go to a music store and just try them out. all guitars need to be checked out first regardless of brand. look for something with as much solid wood as possible, check the frets for buzzes everywhere. Then play all the strings individually at the 12th fret harmonic (if you don't know how, look it up on youtube, its not hard) then compare that to pressing down the 12th fret and playing. if they are out of tune with each other, move on cause the guitar will never tune right. Putting in the extra effort to shop around and find one you like is worth it.

good dvd for acoustic guitar beginners?

Blink 182

ok so ive recently brought an acoustic guitar but ive never really playd 1 before is there any recomended dvd's to help me out?...thankyou! :D

Answer
The Acoustic Guitar Method is a very good DVD for beginners (http://www.homespuntapes.com/CatalogueRetrieve.aspx?ProductID=1015800&A=SearchResult&SearchID=304966&ObjectID=1015800&ObjectType=27). I'd recommend any of Homespun's DVDs. They've been doing acoustic guitar instruction for over 40 years, and their videos are outstanding. Great teachers, camera work, and and overall instruction. They've also got a new video for beginners with Steve Kaufman (http://www.homespuntapes.com/CatalogueRetrieve.aspx?ProductID=1679286&A=SearchResult&SearchID=282716&ObjectID=1679286&ObjectType=27), who is an incredible guitar player and a very popular and respected guitar teacher. So, this could be a good video, too, though his specialty is country and bluegrass guitar, and it looks like he does teach for the pure beginner in this video, but as it progresses it will focus on country and bluegrass playing.
They have several DVDs for beginners, so you should check those out and see what looks best to you.

There are also some great online guitar programs that are worth checking out, if you're considering going that route. Jamorama (http://6ebc8zrd8h8x2l6cigvblalq4a.hop.clickbank.net/) is a very good one.

Acoustic Guitar also has a downloadable video/pdf guide for beginners (http://www.stringletter.com/Shop/The-Beginner-s-Guide-to-Guitar-Complete-Edition) that is very good, too.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Good acoustic guitar for beginners?

The Casual

I'm planning on getting an acoustic guitar for beginners and for budget I'd say anywhere from nothing to about £300. It's a present for my 16 th birthday coming up soon. I don't know a lot about guitars though and want to start to learn how to play.

Thank youuuu!

Answer
At your budget, a solid top (as opposed to a laminate top) is a must. There are some very good guitars being made at that price, so you'll have a lot to choose from. I also like the Seagull S6 (I still own one, in fact). It's a well-made guitar with a great sound, but I would absolutely encourage you to test out several before you buy. And, if possible, bring a friend with you to test them out, possibly one who also plays guitar. That way you can both switch off playing the guitar and listening to see which sound best from a player's and listener's perspective.

An article that I've frequently referred to has some good questions to consider when shopping for a guitar at this price range (and at any price range, really). "What is the guitar made of? Does it have a solid top? Is the neck straight? Are the frets solidly seated and evenly filed? Do the tuning machines turn smoothly? Is the guitar easy to play? Does it buzz? Once youâre satisfied that the basic requirements have been met, you can move on to more personal issues. Are you comfortable with the size of the guitarâs body and neck? Do you like the instrumentâs shape and tone? Is the finish strong enough to protect the guitar in the places you intend to play it?" There's a lot more in the article, even though it's a few years old, but it should help you with your decision.

Acoustic Guitars? -?

Hannah

I am looking to buy an acoustic guitar.
What type should i look for, what models, brands and prices e.t.c...
would £200-£250 get me a good guitar?

Answer
if you want an acoustic guitar id recommend against nylon strung guitars since its probably not the tone your looking for... unless you want to play classical guitar

based on questions you've answered you seem to be a fan of rock so id recommend a dreadnought model to get a fair bit of bass response.
brand-wise look into yamaha since they generally have good products. Cruiser by Crafter have decent electric starter guitars which are quite popular for beginners but I've only tried one of their acoustics. Tanglewood are good also. Really with starters most of them will sound quite similar and the build quality and materials will be about the same anyways.

For starter guitars just go to a shop and tell them that you want to start and they should give you some guidance and pick out the most suitable guitars from their stock. play the strings open to get an idea of the tone, and then try to fret a few notes. if its too hard to hold the frets or you dont like the sound try something different until you find something you like.

if you haven't played guitar at all before you might feel a bit uncomfortable going into a shop and trying something out when you have no idea what you're looking for remember that the guys who work in the shop are their to help you out and most will gladly play something on it for you to hear the tone.

if you live nowhere near a good shop, or have the intention of buying online id recommend this: http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Dreadnought-Acoustic-Guitar-Natural/8CK one of my friends bought the electro-acoustic version and it came set-up well and sounded pretty decent for a starter. aswell as having a very low price!

otherwise probably look to spend around £50-100 for a starter pack with a soft case, spare strings, plectrums and a tuner of some sort.

hope that helps

James

and £200-£250 should be able to get you a fairly decent solid top electro-acoustic

is the Yamaha F335 Acoustic Guitar good?

Lalala Z

ok, i am new to guitars so i herd the Yamaha F335 Acoustic was good for beginners but someone told me that Electric guitars are better for beginners because its easier to press down on the strings, is it true?!?! also i have another question i want to play any kind of music on my guitar so is the yamaha F335 acoustic guitar good for it?

Answer
An acoustic is a good way to start because it gives your fingers more muscle strength but if you want to start on electric then you can try it out too

Electric IS easier to press down on because it has a low action but its also pricey and you need an amp to come with it. I started out with an acoustic and it worked for me great because it was so easy to play electric when I got one.

All in all its your choice but I would definitely get the yamaha acoustic to start and then save up for a kick ass Electric guitar...

guitars !?

Are all acoustic guitars the same. like do they play the same
i know acoustic and electric are different.

why are guitars so expensive, there just made out of wood.. right?
which guitars are great and afforable?
excuse me. i meant affordable. lol
iam typing and eating at the same time. aha

anyways thanks in advance

Answer
All acoustic guitars are not the same. There are a variety of body shapes and sizes and lots of different woods that can be used. Each of these choices affect the sound of the guitar. A rosewood and cedar dreadnought is going to have a warm, bass-heavy sound while a maple and spruce grand concert will be a much brighter guitar.

Virtually all of the less expensive ones are made from inferior wood and stamped out in a factory in Asia, mostly in China. Little care or attention is paid to the fit and finish, much less to the resonance of the wood.

More expensive guitars use better quality wood and are made much more slowly. The braces are shaved - a laborious process to ensure optimum resonance - and the top is often tap-tuned to ensure top quality sound. All of this takes time and skilled labor. The guitars are precisely assembled, finished, and inspected.

If you live anywhere near Nazareth, Pennsylvania take a tour of the CF Martin factory and you'll understand why their guitars cost so much.

One last thing: certain wood, like Brazilian rosewood, is in short supply since trade in it is banned by international treaty, and can add $3000 - $5000 to the cost of a guitar.

Well first off I suggest yamaha.

As for guitars in that price range, there are a few. Go here and read the reviews of the ones in that price range:

What is a good acoustic guitar brand?

Kaleigh H

i have an electric guitar and have been playing for about 4 or 5 months. i am looking to get an acoustic but i don't know what brand i should get. i don't want to spend any more than $300. any suggestions?

Answer
Well Guitars are meant to be a personal preference were it's more of what feels right to you... But, to answer your question, I personally feel that Ibanez is a great company to start with.

I myself have bought three acoustic Ibanez Guitars. I had gotten a Classical Acoustic with nylon strings, but my main acoustic guitar is my Steel Stringed V-series model, Natural tone one... The 3rd guitar was the same V-series, but black which had been purchased for a family member.

(Link of the Steel string V-series that I bought two of...)
http://www.ibanez.com/ACOUSTIC/series.as...

I had bought both of the acoustic guitars for the same price, ($180.00), but stores may vary... Don't get me wrong Ibanez do have some pricey models but, they do make great low priced ones for beginners too.

I personally feel that Ibanez is a truly trustworthy brand, that is good for people just beginning or people who are experienced in playing guitar. Even though they have some low priced guitars, they still remain in good quality.

But so I'm not sounding like only one brand is correct, Ibanez, Yamaha, Epiphone, and Takamine are good guitars that I've had contact with in your price range.

Don't worry so much about the brand though, pick what feels right to you that's most important.

Have fun!!

acoustic guitar.....?

Sydney S

ok so which guitar is better the fender or the acoustic???

Answer
Okayy
ima explain this for you since nobody else will

soo first off, a fender isnt a type of guitar
theres Electric, Acoustic, and electric-acoustic

Fender, Gibson, Epiphone, Etc. are all brand names
In other words, They are the manafacturers

Soo, if your question is what is better, electric or acoustic, then the answer is :

Electric guitar and acoustic guitars arent really better than each other because the better guitar for you depends on your style. If you like natural sounds with clean strums and you want to take that guitar t ogo, then choose acoustic.

If you are planning on playing metal (my favorite xD), rock, etc, then choose an electric guitar. Pretty much all electric guitars are the same because their sound depends highly on the type of amplifier you choose. I prefer electric guitar because its also alot louder.

Electric- Acoustics are sort of like a hybrid because you can take them anywhere without an amplifier and still get that beautiful natural acoustic sound that would normally come from a standard acoustic guitar. When your at home and you feel like playing some rock or metal or etc., then you can just plug into your amp and shred.

If your question is "What is the best brand/manifacturer acoustic or electric guitar?" then heres your answer:

There are 3rd party (cheap) guitars who make remedy guitars off of the top-of-the-line makers, Mid class guitar makers or divisions of the high end brands, and the high end (best) brand names. Third party makers such as johnson, brownsville, and vineyard are low quality brands but they are very inexpensive. Then, there are Branches or divisions off of the high end brands. These include Epiphone, Squire, etc. These brands are a part of the high end companies such as fender and gibson, They are pretty good quality guitars and they are mid priced. Then come the high end guitar brands such as Fender and Gibson and Dean and Jackson. These are the highest quality guitars but they may come with such a huge price tag, you can buy 2 used cars with. Fenders can range from poor quality $80-$200 to high quality $1200-$4600. They are over-rated in a way. You would be better off buying an epiphone or squire guitar because they have almost the same quality but come at much, much lower prices. Jackson guitars are my favorite because they have amazing quality and are mid-priced like epiphones.

This applies to both acoustic and electric guitars.

Looking for an affordable 12 string electric acoustic guitar, what should I buy?

preemption

I'm looking for a 12 string that is affordable (i.e., cheap), built-in pickup preferred, and decent quality for a hobby player. Any advice? Great music stores?

Answer
It depends on what you mean by 'cheap.' Takamine and Seagull both make pretty good cheap 12-string electric acoustics. The next step up would be Ovation and the Martin D12X1. After these products I've recommended, you start getting into good 12-strings that are pricey and around $1000 dollars and upward. For example, if you want to stay within a budget (splooging in a fiscally responsible manner) but get a more finely crafted one, the Taylor 355 is great for the money (upward of $1600 - it's a Jumbo, a bit different).

Is the EPIPHONE DR212 12-STRING ACOUSTIC a good guitar?

cRAZy897

Here's a link http://www.rockshop.co.nz/04/start.php
That's definitely the shop i'm going to buy my guitar from as I have got good guitars from and they have good service etc. My question is, is that a good choice for my first 12 string guitar? I it a reliable brand? Is it a good price for the quality they claim? My price range is below $500

If you can suggest a better one they are here

THANKS FOR ANY HELP :)

Answer
The best 12 string I ever owned was an Epiphone. Sadly, it got destroyed. Epiphones are mostly copies of their big brother Gibson's designs. Despite they are manufactured under cheaper methods, they rival the more expensive Gibson's. The 12 I had was a natural finish version copy of the model Gibson 12 string that Gordon Lightfoot plays. The one I had played better than the Gibson's I had played. I would suggest you go in and try it out. If they have more than one, ask to play them all before choosing. Identical guitars are not identical sounding and playing.

Lotus Acoustic Guitar?

skeeter

I have a Lotus L-110 acoustic. Is it valuable? I have no case but it's in great condition.

Answer
Lotus made knock-offs of premium brand guitars, from factories which began in Japan, and then were moved to India before the company's general demise. At the time they sold for around $130, give or take depending on the model. They were considered a good value for a beginner's guitar, but had no value to serious players, as their manafacture precluded the richness in tone and sound that comes from aged solid wood tops and more premium guitar-making techniques, which is what makes premium guitars accumulate most of their increased value as time goes on if they are made well and age well.
Of course the value of any guitar is also in the eye of the beholder. You may want to take it to a reputable guitar shop and ask for a "set-up", which is basically a straightening of the neck, (I assume by the age of the guitar and your question that this is something that has fallen into your hands that was stored away for quite some time), a general check-up to see if the bridge, nut, etc. are all in solid order, a tightening of the keys that allow tuning of the strings, and whatever else may have gone astray during its time in storage. The luthier, (don't take it to a Guitar Center---find a privately-owned guitar shop-they'll also be cheaper), may be able to tell you how much you might be able to get for it on ebay or craigslist, or he or she may buy used guitars as well. If not, then the forty or so dollars you'll spend on a set-up will increase what you can ask on the aforementioned sites for the guitar. If it's in good shape and the luthier confirms that, I would say anywhere from $90-$110 would be a fair price, (the luthier may give give you better advice here), so minus the set-up, you'll make $50-$70. Or you, can just learn how to play it.

Best acoustic guitar for under $200?

N.P

I took some guitar classes in hs and want to continue learning so I want a good guitar but have a low budget :/ any suggestions? I learned on a Gibson maestro but I definitely want to upgrade...

Answer
The absolute best steel string acoustic guitar under $200 is the Yamaha FG700S for $199. You won't believe what a great improvement that is over the Gibson Maestro you learned on. Go to Guitar Center and try one out though before you buy anything and see if I'm right (or whatever anyone else on here recommends too for that matter).

I've been teaching for over 30 years and Yamaha makes the best beginner guitars out there (under $200 is a "beginner" guitar budget). I recently got a Yamaha FG720S (step up from the FG700S) on Ebay for $149, so don't be afraid to shop around used once you figure out what kind of guitar you want. You might get a better guitar for the money that way.

In addition to Yamaha, Seagull, Takamine, Alvarez, and Epiphone would be decent options. I tend to stay away from the cheaper Dean, Ibanez, Fender (and Squier), and other brand acoustic guitars.

Decent acoustic guitar for under $200?

Chicken

I am just learning how to play guitar in a class offered at my school, and I think it is about time I invest in my own guitar. I don't want to spend more than $200, but I want a decent steel string acoustic guitar. Any suggestions on brand or model?
If not, what should I look for in the instrument?
Will a solid top be too expensive?
Do you recommend getting the acoustic guitar with the cut-out so it is easier to get the higher frets?
Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks so much!
Molly

Answer
If you're just learning to play guitar on acoustic, you don't neccessarily need the cutaway.
A solid top will sound really nice but some solid-top guitars can be expensive. However, you might find a used Art and Lutherie or Seagull or Walden with a solid top on Ebay (or elsewhere) for under $200, so that might be a good route.
I've played some fairly decent Epiphone acoustics, and I even had a $100 one for a little while that played pretty decently and sounded pretty good.
I would look mostly for comfort in holding the guitar if you're beginning. Go to a guitar store and actually sit down holding the different guitars. You might find that some of the guitars have big fat necks and some have thinner necks that might feel more comfortable in your hand. Depending on your size, maybe a large Dreadnought sized guitar (the most typical acoustic guitar shape) is too big -- you might feel more comfortable playing an Auditorium-sized guitar or what they call the Grand Concert or "Folk" sized guitar. Even a small-bodied Parlor guitar might fit you the best, so try every size, from Jumbos to Dreads to Parlors and everywhere in between!
Your biggest concern at this point would be comfort in playing. If you're not comfortable playing or practicing, you won't want to play. But if you're comfortable, you'll play more and more and get better and better, at which point you could really consider looking at other guitars with better sound.
