Lotus Acoustic Guitar?

skeeter

I have a Lotus L-110 acoustic. Is it valuable? I have no case but it's in great condition.

Answer
Lotus made knock-offs of premium brand guitars, from factories which began in Japan, and then were moved to India before the company's general demise. At the time they sold for around $130, give or take depending on the model. They were considered a good value for a beginner's guitar, but had no value to serious players, as their manafacture precluded the richness in tone and sound that comes from aged solid wood tops and more premium guitar-making techniques, which is what makes premium guitars accumulate most of their increased value as time goes on if they are made well and age well.
Of course the value of any guitar is also in the eye of the beholder. You may want to take it to a reputable guitar shop and ask for a "set-up", which is basically a straightening of the neck, (I assume by the age of the guitar and your question that this is something that has fallen into your hands that was stored away for quite some time), a general check-up to see if the bridge, nut, etc. are all in solid order, a tightening of the keys that allow tuning of the strings, and whatever else may have gone astray during its time in storage. The luthier, (don't take it to a Guitar Center---find a privately-owned guitar shop-they'll also be cheaper), may be able to tell you how much you might be able to get for it on ebay or craigslist, or he or she may buy used guitars as well. If not, then the forty or so dollars you'll spend on a set-up will increase what you can ask on the aforementioned sites for the guitar. If it's in good shape and the luthier confirms that, I would say anywhere from $90-$110 would be a fair price, (the luthier may give give you better advice here), so minus the set-up, you'll make $50-$70. Or you, can just learn how to play it.

My 13 year old niece has a guitar. She never tries to learn how to play it because she doesn't know how to tune in. I know nothing about instruments. So what's the easiest way to tune your own acoustic guitar?

Answer
YOu can get a tuner, so when you hit a string it tells you which note you are playing.

First off, all the string names are as follows:
E A D G B E from thickest to thinest

here is a site with an online tuner and other tunning methods:

What are some good acoustic guitars?

Haley

I am a beginner and I am looking for an acoustic guitar that is cheap and worth its money. Not over 150 dollars. With accessories.

Answer
check out musicians friend. They offer plenty of good quality instruments and have a good return policy if you are not satisfied. go to every local music store and play as many as you can. Take a friend with you who plays and knows a bit about guitars. Ask the sales people for advice, believe it or not they really do want to help you get the best instrument for the price. avoid big box stores like wal mart or target because the instruments there are usually junk and/or have not been set up right. Plus no one there knows anything about them!
almost all inexpensive guitars that have different names are made by the same factories and are, in fact, very similar in construction and quality to each other. There are good quality instruments made in korea, china. india, mexico, and the list goes on, and they all make good instruments.
Check out rogue and ibanez as well as fender or epiphone
