I really want to play some songs in the chart,I want a guitar which sounds like ed Sheeran / Ben Howard / Gabrielle applin , you get my vibe , I'm aware it's an acoustic but what kind ?? I bought a guitar 2 years ago thinking it would sound like that £20 from Argos it's a Herald Model No HL34, and it's not that guitar! I have the foggiest please help thanks!!:)

Answer
Your guitar is a classical acoustic guitar with nylon strings. I looked up your guitar model.

You need a Steel Stringed Acoustic or Folk guitar to get the sound you're looking for.
At Argos, the cheapest ones are the Martin Smith guitars. They start at 40 quid.

Not saying they are good, but if you only paid 20 for the first one, that tells me you don't have a lot of money to spend.

Are the ibanez gio series good starter guitars?

Jake

I can play chords on my acoustic and am getting an electric I have seen a second hand ibanez gio for £180 in my local music storeshould I get this over a squier bullet strat from Argos I will be playing indie rock stuff like the arctic monkeys also I will be learning other ways to play to

Answer
Both are good guitars i truely perfere ibanez for a more rock/metal music but it all depends oh what you are looking for but whatever is cheaper and better sounding dont exactly go for the cheap ones spend a little more than you intend to spend cause sometimes spending just a tad more can help but go all for sounds or get an ibanez body guitar and customize it by buying pick ups you choose it all depends

lol

I want to start playing guitar and want a good acoustic guitar to start learning with. I want an acoustic one with steel strings. I'm trying to keep it under $300. Any ideas? (just looking for acoustic none of that acoustic/electric in 1 stuff)

Answer
Yamaha makes great guitars in that price range. Check out the $200 FG-700S. It has a solid spruce top, which sounds better and improves more with age than the plywood tops normally found in entry level guitars, and should last you a few years before you're ready to upgrade. There are also other 7xxS series Yamahas with different body sizes or ornamentation but similar construction. Epiphone and Jasmine are a couple of other brands to check.

You can definitely find something decent for under $300, but try not to drop under about $150, about $100 at the absolute lowest. Below that it's mostly unplayable junk. Buy only from a music store after inspecting and trying out the guitar if at all possible. For a first guitar, your main consideration should be that the instrument is solidly built, comfortable to hold, and easy to play. The strings should be neither too far from the fretboard to press down easily, nor so close that they buzz against the frets when played with a normal amount of force.

Suggestions on what guitar I should get?

For the past five years, I've had the same beginner electric guitar, only the terrible sound has prevented me from playing it for a while. I would like to switch over to a nice sounding acoustic guitar. Even thought I've been playing for a while, I am self-taught and not very great (I just play basic chords, and my hands don't really work with bar chords). However, I would like something that at least sounds good and that I could find for under $300 used. Any suggestions are appreciated! I've heard Taylor guitars are really nice, but I don't know what kind to get. I think I'm looking in the intermediate range.

Answer
Taylors are way out of your budget. Id look out for a used yamaha ls16, ll16, lx16 or a Simon and Patrick sp6, seagull s6, Make sure you can try before you buy and take an experienced friend to test them and look out for certain damage that you may not detect.lots of people buy these models to learn with and then give up playing after a month so you can get these in new condition for around half the price they cost new. If you want new then go to a guy centre and play lots of acoustics within your budget and choose the one you like best. Try a yamaha fg700s ($200) you can take some lessons with the change.

I don't know anything about guitars sorry. What gear would he need? I want to get him lessons but want to make sure he has everything he needs. thanks for the help.

Answer
Well for starters an electric is not more expensive than an acoustic, also an acoustic body is very large for a kid that age. So I do not agree with the answer above. If you can find a kids size electric that would work. If not, the Epiphone Les Paul Jr. is a fairly small guitar and would work just fine. A little Line 6 Spider 15 watt amp would be a choice for an amp also.

I do NOT shop online by the way, lol.
I am a 14 year old, average sized girl who wants to play acoustic guitar.
I prefer going to Guitar Center and buying one, cheaply priced.
Preferably $250 - $300 or under.
Links please, if possible?

I just want to know a good brand for acoustic guitars. Not a little guitar for young kids.

thank you :)

Answer
the Ibanez starter pak has a good guitar, a gig bag, a strap, a tool pouch, an electronic tuner all for about $100. Many manufacturers have a similar starter pak or guitar center can put one together for you. You should not need to spend more than $200 for a good beginner instrument. I definitely suggest investing in guitar lessons to insure that you will get the most out of your purchase

Answer
You can buy an electric guitar from Cristofori Music School. They sell cheap guitars made from Japan, like the brand Suzuki.

If you want a guitar with better quality and reasonable price, get the Yamaha one available at almost ALL Yamaha Music School outlets.

Do check out http://www.yamaha.com.sg/804.html. They have the range of Yamaha electric guitars there.

I'm also gonna buy a guitar soon but mine will be an acoustic one, most likely from Yamaha.

Kyra

I need to learn the basic guitar chords. If you have a website that has a printable document with it, please list it! I really need to learn these. Thanks in advance!

Answer
Any time I'm teaching a total beginner, I teach them what are called "open chords" which means that they utilize open strings. I typically teach them these ones first:

G, C, D, E, A, E-, A-, D-

There are thousands of songs using only these chords or a small variation (turning the E, A, or D into E7, A7, or D7 for example).

Here's a pretty nice chart with lots of open chords (and a few barre chords for good measure). You needn't worry about learning 13th chords and stuff right now; just learn those 8 I mentioned and you'll be ready to play some music, then start tackling tougher chords as they come your way.

Is it possible for a lefty to use a regular acoustic guitar?

i'm a lefty. i wanna learn acoustic guitar. i know lefty guitars are more expensive. is it possbile to just train myself to use a regular guitar? any other advice for me? like what i should do in terms of lessons etc? i'm a total beginner. :]

Answer
You can definitely use a regular guitar (not upside-down). I know lefties who play guitar "righty" and they say it's easier because the more dexterous hand is the one making the complex chord formations, while the weak hand is just strumming up and down.

I want to teach myself to play, but I still want a good quality acoustic guitar that will last me a long time. Kind of like an "easy enough for a beginner, good enough for a pro" type of deal that doesn't break the bank. I don't want to spend more than $200, with an absolute max of $250. Also, I want it to sound and look really really good. Any suggestions?

Sounds like Yamaha FG-700S woud be perfect for you. Not a professional guitar (which is not to be expected in this price range) but it has a solid spruce top and you probably won't outgrow it for a few years.

Does an electro acoustic guitar ever degrade over years?

Q. Hi guys, could an electro acoustic guitar produce bad quality sounds over 3 or 4 years of use and if it has minor minor scratches and the smallest ever dents (like a shallow dent the size of an ant) on it?

Thanks

Answer
Of course, any guitar can benefit by a trip to the doctor once in a while. The guitar may need a professional set up..about $35 in my area...they check the neck, adjust the bridge, intonation, truss rod..etc..etc...if needed.

Your guitar may need a new battery? If your electric/acoustic plays allright and sounds in tune, distortion and loss of volume is the first sign of a weak battery.

I am interested in learning how to play, and I would like to learn how to play the acoustic guitar. Would anyone know of a guitar within the price range of 100-200 dollars?
Thanks! :)

Answer
If you are just about to learn then you're quite right in not spending a fortune, and $200 is about right. If you go too cheap you'll end up with a poor quality instrument that will sound terrible and be difficult to play - that's never going to encourage you to continue, so the $150 - $200 mark is about right.
Yamaha do some fairly good guitars at this range such as the F335 ($149 at Amazon).
Something you may not have considered yet is your physical size. Jumbo acoustics can be huge and if you're only a small person you'll struggle a bit. I'd recommend finding a local store and having a look. Pick up & hold as many as you can and find the one that feels most comfortable. (It will no doubt be an expensive model, but this is fine - you just want to find out the body size - and aim for the same but in your price range).

Here's a useful size chart: http://www.cbguitars.com/body-sizes.htm

Good luck with your guitar learning - just don't give up when you're struggling as learning an instrument starts gradual but you soon jump level to level and it just gets easier and easier. Oh and just so you have an idea of what to expect the first few months : your fingers will get sore (strings really cut into the tips) but they harden up & will be a lot easier in time. The muscles in your hands will be killing you after hours & hours of practice - this is normal at first, your hands are simply not used to maintaining certain positions for a long period of time - again it gets much easier with time!

What's a good acoustic guitar for an absolute beginner?

? ?

My 16th birthday is coming up and I wanted to ask for a guitar and I was wondering if there were any good and affordable suggestions for a beginner.

Also, any tips and links would be appreciated. Thanks :)

*Acoustic guitar, btw, no electric.

Answer
This probably isn't what you (or the folks paying for the guitar) want to hear, but a cheap $100 guitar isn't the best choice for a beginner. Actually, it isn't a good choice for anybody. As a beginner, you don't need a fancy guitar, or one with the sweetest tone, but you do need something that won't fight against you. All those cheap guitars at Walmart and amazon.com *look* like decent guitars for a beginner but they're difficult to play and hard to keep tuned. This actually increases the probability that you'll give up trying to learn out of frustration....making the low cost guitar a total waste of money.

If you get a slightly better guitar, you'll improve your chances of success, and have a guitar you won't outgrow in a couple of months. My first choice (balancing cost and quality) would be the Yamaha FG700S: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/yamaha-fg700s-folk-acoustic-guitar
That guitar has a solid wood top for better tone and will last you a long time.
Working downward in quality, tone, and playability, consider these or other guitars by Yamaha, Ibanez, or Epiphone:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/epiphone-aj-220s-acoustic-guitar
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/ibanez-sgt120-sage-series-acoustic-guitar
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/yamaha-f335-acoustic-guitar
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/epiphone-pr-150-acoustic-guitar

I've supplied links to an online retailer, but it's best if you can buy at a local music store. That way you can see and feel the guitar before buying. You may find that one is more comfortable or easy to hold than another. I realize you can't play yet, but you can have the salesperson play then to see which sounds better to you. Best of luck to you, no matter which guitar you end up with.

Is a 2012 Baby Taylor a good guitar for a beginner?

acoustic guitar for beginners 2012 image

fairytaled

i'm planning on learning guitar this summer, and i really wanted a taylor because of their sound quality and great craftsmanship. i've been looking at the Baby and all of the reviews have been great, plus i love the look and feel of it. i'm a smaller 15 year old... would its size be appropriate for me? my other concern is that if i learn to play on the baby, transferring to a larger regular sized guitar would be difficult. do you think that it would be hard to switch between the two? thank you so much for the help! :)

Answer
The Baby Taylor is a decent guitar, much better than what a lot of folks learn on. My only reservation about recommending it is due to it being a 3/4 scale guitar and not the greatest tone. When you see the great raves about the tone, you need to put that in perspective. Most folks are looking at this as a travel guitar and are thinking that *for that purpose* it's got decent tone. It's definitely not in the same league as full sized Taylors. It also has a bolt-on neck with 2 big screws between the 16th and 16th frets which is kind of funky.

As far as transitioning between a 3/4 scale and full sized guitar, I wouldn't expect you to have any problems. You might want to consider a Yamaha FS720S http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/yamaha-fs720s-folk-acoustic-guitar which is a small bodied full scale guitar...in other words, the neck is normal sized, but the body is easier to reach your arm over. I know that Yamaha doesn't have the same reputation as Taylor, but in this price range, they make very good guitars.

The best thing you can do is to go to a music store and try some guitars on for size. Get the salesperson to play them for you so you can hear the difference in tone.

what is the diff with these strats?

Im interested in a Fender strat but there are some ranging from $200 to $4000. So whats the main differences between the $180 Fender Squire affinity strat http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/squier-affinity-series-stratocaster-electric-guitar/510423000001069

the $450 Fender Std Strat www.musiciansfriend.com

then of course the Fender Standard American Strat.$999
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/fender-2012-american-standard-stratocaster-electric-guitar-with-rosewood-fingerboard

Thank you for those who respond. and Im only 16 years old. I love playing guitar, I've taken lessons on acoustic when I was ten but that only lasted a few months. So a few weeks ago I've started practicing on my cheap symphonics acoustic (it was a free gift 6 string acoustic so I cant complain, and ive put d'adarrio strings on it) and I've been on youtube learning to play some songs from John Mayer and Beatles, Eric Clapton etc.... (some musicians I like) and Ive developed the callouses on my fingers, and what not, but I've heard its better to start on an electric, and of course im not so so great on the cheap little acoustic but Ive been practicing chords on it etc....etc..SO Im saving up some money and I particularly like Fender guitars for some reason (prob cause Eric Clapton,Jeff Beck and John Mayer use them) so yea my point is, im a little more advanced then a beginner so like intermediate. Im just looking for a good Fender strat I can learn to practice and play on

Answer
Hello there,

The difference is in how they feel to play, how they sound and how well they will stand up to the rigors of gigging.

Not all Squier Strats have a body made from alder. I think the Afiinity still does. Most cheaper Squiers are either basswood or agathis. Even thought the Affinity body may be alder, the MIM Standard is alder and the American Standard is alder, the woods are not of equal quality. Fender uses higher grade lumber in its more expensive guitars. The manner of making the bodies is not the same. Sure they have the same general shape. But the similarity ends there. The Affinity body is made from several pieces of alder. I have seen up to 5 used. Using up the smaller scraps of lumber reduces the amount of wood wasted and lowers the production cost. It also lowers the tone of the body. MIM Standard is made from 2 or maybe 3 pieces. The American Standard is 2 piece. The Affinity body is not made to Fender specs. It is much thinner than a Fender Stratocaster.

The neck is a similar matter. All are made from maple. All can have either a maple or rosewood fretboard. The higher grade lumber is used for the Fender Strats and the lower grade goes into the Squier. The grain pattern in most Squier necks is not nearly as attractive as the grain pattern in most Fender necks. The Squier neck simply will not sound as good as the Fender neck because it is made from lower grade maple. The MIM Standard will have a better job of beveling, dressing and polishing the ends of the frets. The American Standard is better yet. The American Standard will have a higher quality nut and more detailed in its shaping than a MIM Standard. The Squier has a molded plastic nut. The American Standard will have hand rolled edges to the fretboard. An experienced player will appreciate all the small details of the American Standard. A beginner will not notice them. Those small details are hand labor and raises the cost.

The American Standard has pickups with Alinco magnets. The MIM Standard has pickups that have ceramic magnets, They are slightly hotter than the American pickups, but sound very good. The Squier will have cheaply constructed pickups with ceramic magnets. Most are hotter to compensate for the lack of tone. To an inexperienced ear, they may sound decent. To an ear that has played for thousands of hours, that lack of tone is intolerable. The electronics in the American Standard are first rate. CTS pots and a CRL switch. The MIM Standard will have good electronics. I have even seen CTS pots (American made) in some MIM Strats. The Squier has low quality electronics. The pots are absolutely terrible. Beginners don't rely on the tone controls all that much, so they may not even realize how bad the pots are.

The Squier Affinity is mass produced. The MIM Standard is mostly mass produced. The American Standard has a little mass production and a significant amount of hand fitting of the parts. The more hand labor involved in the assembly, the higher the cost.

Every little part on the Squier Affinity is cheaper and lower quality than on the Fender Strats. The 2 screws that hold the claw in place are shorter and thinner than a Fender screw. They are some soft alloy. If they save a penny or two on the two cheap claw screws, you know they scrimped on everything else.

Overall, the Squier Affinity is suitable for a beginner to learn on. Maybe a casual player will use one. It is not built well enough to gig with. It will not hold up to that sort of use. The MIM Standard is a work horse. It is sturdy and well m

Wanted to take my J45 aboard but didnt know if i would get damaged by being chucked around in bagage!

Answer
A standard guitar case in the luggage compartment of a commercial airliner doesn't have much of a chance of survival. I've seen people do it, but I sure wouldn't.

When I do have to fly and instrument, I use a ATA 300 rated case from Calzone to protect it. It's a lot of money for those kinds of cases (about $300-400), but I know that my instrument is going to arrive in one piece.

If you do decide to fly the guitar with the standard case, take these precautions:

1. Remove everything from case except the guitar and the strap. This includes picks, strings, wrenches, keys, bottle openers...whatever. They can become projectiles inside that case.

2. Loosen the strings. Don't remove them, but get the pressure off the neck.

3. Use towels to add additional padding under the headstock. This is where most guitars get damaged. Also add any additional padding where the guitar can move around in the case.

4. Tape the locks shut. Security will probably pull the tape off, but start with it at least. If the latches spring, then game over (another reason to use flight cases...the latches won't spring).

5. You will have to take out additional coverage on the the guitar if you want it insured. As it stands, if it's lost or damaged, the airline only owes you about 60 cents a pound. You'll have to declare excess value and will probably have to pay dearly for it.

6. Take all kinds of pictures of your guitar. If it is damaged, then you've got some kind of record as to the condition of the guitar before the airline got a hold on it!

I would discourage you from doing this. A better idea would be to use someone like UPS or FedEX and ship the guitar ahead of you if there's someone you can trust to sign and receive it for you. I would cost you a lot less that way.

Greetings from Austin, TX

Ken

How do you start professionally recording music?

AussiePrid

What tools are best for recording music, rock music, with
x3 Guitar (1 Bass, 2 Treble)
Keyboard
Vocals
Drums

Answer
First decide exactly what you want to do. Let's say you want to produce songs with drums, keyboard, 3 vocals, bass, 2 guitars. You would need a 16 track digital audio workstation (DAW), either a computer-based system if you already have a good enough computer, or a stand-alone DAW, like the ones I linked. Why 16? Because you'll want at least two tracks for drums (maybe 4 or 6), two for stereo keys. Do not get exactly how many tracks you think you want. You will grow out of them, I promise. DAWs typically have CD burners, so you can take your project all the way to CD. Send that in along with your artwork to a duplicating house like dvd-cdinc.com or Discmakers, and you're ready to sell your music.

Very important: Buy a large-diaphragm condenser microphone. Any decent salesperson will know what this is. They are more expensive than dynamic mic's, but this is a very important investment. Small diaphragm is second choice, followed by dynamic. A large-diaphragm mic is what you would use for vocals and acoustic guitars. You can use less-expensive mic's on other instruments.

If you want to record real drums, you'll want to consider mic'ing most of the drums separately. Shure SM57 and SM58 are $100. These have been industry standards for decades, and they take a pounding. They are good for drums, guitar amps, and other instruments. You can buy them in a package with a special bass drum mic (link below). Add to that a pair of small-diaphragm mic's (link) for "overheads" - for cymbals and overall ambience, and you have a great drum mic kit. For a smaller budget you can just get the overhead pair and a bass drum mic.

You'll need to monitor your music (listen while recording and mixing) so you'll need a decent power amp and speakers (monitors) or powered speakers. Good monitors are an important investment, too, because they are your window to the ears of your audience. They need to be accurate, because your music will be heard through ear pods, headphones, computer speakers, in cars, and good stereo speakers. Your best shot at sounding your best in all those formats is to buy decent monitors. You can get budget ones for around $300, but they only really start to get good at $600. Lots of people use headphones to monitor. That's OK if it's all you can afford, but your ears tire out after long sessions. The better the monitors, the longer you can listen without fatigue. You will need a set of headphones for when you're recording acoustic instruments; you can't have speakers on while recording with microphones in the same room.

One very important but overlooked aspect of studio recording is acoustical treatment. It can get very pricey, and there are a lot of expensive and useless products. I've included a link to some excellent advice for room treatment. I recommend Roxul brand rigid fiberglas, called rockboard, insulation board, etc. The article will tell you how to use it.

Once you have a good idea of what you want to accomplish, find a knowledgeable salesperson who will help you fill in the blanks. The type of set-up I've illustrated here is fairly expensive, so have a budget in mind when you talk to them. Try sweetwater.com.

There's nothing wrong with getting an 8-track DAW, a $100 microphone and a set of headphones. Learn the basics. This will prepare you for better-informed decisions when you're ready for the serious gear.

It's a real adventure. Have fun.

My aim is to learn the acoustic guitar and then move on to the bass guitar.
I was thinking about buying the Yamaha FG700 acoustic but then i was given advice saying that Yamaha is crap and the Johnson acoustic guitars are better and cheaper.
I want to make sure that when i finally buy my acoustic guitar, i don't start wishing i bought a different one.

Answer
No matter what guitar you buy, you're probably going to wish you'd bought a different one. It's the nature of things.

That said, I have zero experience with Johnson guitars (never heard of them). But I've played some good Samicks and Corts. Then there's the low-end Epiphones and Squires (owned by Gibson and Fender, respectively). Of course, if you'd like to try something totally different, you may look at an Applause by Ovation -- they have a round, Lycra back, which greatly changes the feel of them. Although a bit of warning: people generally either love or loathe round-back guitars; there's very little middle-ground.

The key is to play as many as you can lay your hands on and find out which guitar feels the most comfortable in your hands; if it's not comfortable to play, then you're never going to play it. Then eventually you can move up and get a Gibson, Taylor, or Martin (the real King of the Acoustic Guitar).

What website has cheap acoustic guitars?

B.

I want to buy an acoustic guitar, but their expensive. The only cheap ones i found were colored and i do not want a colored guitar i want a nice vintage standard rosewood, mahogany color those type of guitars. Can someone recommend a website where there is cheap guitars under lets see $100 :) thanks.

Answer
I've played the guitar for years, and I think your best bet is either your local craigslist.org, or any local classified listings online. Alternatively, I have noticed some very good prices on EBay and Amazon, but often the shipping costs are very high. There has been the occasional good deal on EBay with free or low shipping, though, so depending on your patience level, it could be worth a look. Guitar Center is national, so maybe they have reasonable shipping - they have periodical blow-out sales. Good luck!

I have some songs that i plan on recording at home. I need to be able to record singing, rapping, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and electric bass. While i don't need absolute top-of-the-line stuff, I'd like my recordings to sound professional enough. ie. not looking for the cheapest option but rather the most bang for my buck. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hey it's so great that you want to record at home!
Here is a list of stuff that you need, and to get the most bang for your buck. I am going to direct you to zZounds because they are the cheapest place to purchase your stuff. If you find a lower price then contact them and they will do something about that.

Condenser microphone- use this to record acoustic guitar, singing, rapping. This is a type of microphone used to capture "delicate sounds"
http://www.zzounds.com/a--2926080/item--SAMCO1 -- this is a well known "bang for your buck" type of microphone

Dynamic microphone- use this to record electric guitar, more rugged sounds
http://www.zzounds.com/a--2926080/item--SHUSM57LC -- this is a "Shure" microphone, you can't go wrong with them

USB Mixer- this will take care of mixing all your instruments, recording your bass, and transferring all the signals to your computer via USB
http://www.zzounds.com/a--2926080/item--BEHX1204USB -- going with a USB mixer is definitely the cheaper way to go rather than an audio interface, but it will still sound professional

Headphones- use these to listen to recordings, etc. Once you get down the road, you might want to consider studio monitors, but headphones are a must-have for a studio
http://www.zzounds.com/a--2926080/item--AUTATHM40FS -- these are definitely pro-grade headphones but for a relatively low price

Cables- a 1/4 inch and a XLR
http://www.zzounds.com/a--2926080/item--MONS100S -- you can't go wrong with Monster
http://www.zzounds.com/a--2926080/item--CBIMLC -- great quarter inch cable

Software- you can definitely use the free open source Audacity but Pro Tools can really enhance your recording
Download for Audacity- http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Pro Tools- http://www.zzounds.com/a--2926080/item--AVDPROTOOLS

For any other tips go to http://www.homemusicgear.com!
We would love to talk to you!
Good Luck!

What is the best setup for a home recording studio?

Justin

I plan on doing some recording in the future and I would like some advice on the different aspects of doing home recordings.

What is the best environment? (Size of room, composition of walls, echo/reverb, etc.)

What is the best equipment? (Microphones, computer recording station, software) I'll be recording vocals, acoustic guitar, piano and various electric instruments.

I've been using Adobe Audition which works great but I'm curious as to what the alternatives are and what are their pros and cons.

Answer
For the basics on setting up a home recording studio, check out this article: http://www.articlecube.com/Article/How-To-Build-A-Home-Recording-Studio/49379
Once you've read this, you'll have a nice foundation. Audition is a nice program and can achieve professional results like many other multitrack recording software programs out there. However, I recommend getting a copy of Pro Tools as your main recording software for a few reasons. First, it is the industry standard in recording. Many major label records have been recorded on Pro Tools. Second, it's easy to use and there's plenty of support an tutorials available on the market to get you up an running in no time (see: http://cgi.ebay.com/Brainwerks-PRO-TOOLS-7-LE-M-Powered-HD-Tutorial-Video_W0QQitemZ260085583899QQihZ016QQcategoryZ41786QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem ) Third, it's easily portable to other studios that have Pro Tools (and many studios do!). This gives you the ability to record a session at home with your guitar and piano; save that session to disk; go to another studio with a nice drum and vocal room (if you choose) and pull the same session up on Pro Tools and add those elements. Then, you can take that session home to arrange and mix your project. Or you could send your Pro Tools session to professional mix engineer, to have it mixed. The sky's the limit. The problem with other programs like Audition is that not as many studios use it (even though it's a good program) so being able to transfer Audition sessions from studio to studio many not be as easy, because that studio will need to have Audition installed on their system (which many studios don't). Another great point to add is that you can now get Pro Tools for around $250, making it very affordable for anyone who wants to put together a home studio. http://www.homerecorder.com/products/software/recording/protoolsmpowered.html
Hope this helps. Good luck!

How do you write song lyrics and an acoustic guitar part?

best acoustic guitar songs about love

Paige

I want to write a song about my boyfriend and I want to write lyrics along with an acoustic guitar part. What are some tips for writing the lyrics? Also, what are some tips to writing an acoustic guitar part to a song? Thanks loves. <3

Answer
Two ways.

1: Lyrics first (recommended)
Start by just writing down everything you want to say. It might be very "poetic" or it might just be very specific. Both make great songs. Do not worry about it fitting into any kind of rhyme pattern or lyrical style. Then, one note at a time, write the music by making a FEELING. Put the words to this. Most of the time what you have written will already fit right in, but if they don't, at this stage you can start worrying about making your paragraph into lines of a song, rhyming (if desired it is not necessary for a high quality song).

2. Music first:
Do not worry about what you want to say to/about him. Just pick one note at a time, or one chord at a time. If nothing is working look up new chords. Create a feeling. Then describe what you are writing about and there are your lyrics.

Tips on acoustic writing: If you are somewhat skilled, folksy riffs sound great with a girl's voice. The great thing about writing acoustic parts is that very simple chords, if played cleanly and perhaps with an interesting strumming pattern, can sound very, very good.

what is the difference between an elavation guitar and stratocaster guitar?

cheap acoustic guitar vs expensive image

My son has guitar lessons and his teacher has said he is ready for a stratocaster guitar, I know nothing about guitars so please help. Elevation seem much cheaper but look the same and seem to offer pretty much the same. Any advise would be helpful. Thank you

Answer
I cannot seem to see the logic in saying that someone is ready for a particular guitar. the only real difference is tone, and playability. the only real thing that is not for beginners is a floyd rose bridge, but thats not the issue in this case. also, certain styles are made easier by particular guitars. for example players who love to play at a million miles per hour prefer thinner necks.

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/catalogId/1500001501/partNumber/5407316.htm
heres a link for an elevation brand guitar, is this the one you are talking about? and in my opinion it is a strat.

Fender only has the trademark to the headstock so essentially everyone makes a strat knockoff. officially branded starts will be by either fender or squier their subsidiary.

so back to the question. the guitar world is a complex web of price vs performance. usually a good compromise can be found. For example a squier Strat is a stratocaster per se, but craftsmanship will be lower than a more expensive fender counterpart. There will be differences in basically everything. Hardware, wood, and fretwork will suffer on the student guitars.

also, all this hinges upon what your son is playing on now. If it is an acoustic, than i see where the teacher is going. If he is playing on an inexpensive student guitar than perhaps he just means its time to upgrade to a more playable guitar?

ultimately in basically all large guitar brands you get what you pay for. There are smaller house brands out there that do offer much better bang for your buck. The only issue with these is you have to know what you are looking at, otherwise you will be worse off. two smaller brands that i absolutely whole heartedly trust are Agile, and Raven West Guitars. Their management really stands behind their product.

expect to pay more than 200. 300 will get you a very usable intermediate guitar. so is your son really ready for a $300 guitar?

if exact models in question were shown it would be infinitely easier to offer advice. currently i am just probing in the dark.

good luck

should i start learning with an acoustic or electric guitar?

Q. im planning to buy a guitar tomorrow.i have no experience what so ever and i dont know which one is easier to learn with.
acoustic and electric ?

Answer
okay, check out this links for professional opinion..
http://guitar.about.com/od/commonbeginnerquestions/a/elec_vs_acoust.htm

and for other fellas opinion:
http://ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=864568&highlight=acoustic+electric+first+guitar

and for my opinion. i got an acoustic first because it is cheaper and you can take it anywhere. you can't play the electric without an amp. also, you really don't know yet if you're gonna pursue learning guitar, so if you buy a really expensive electric first, and you lose interest, itd just gather dust in your closet or wherever..so..there. hope the links help you out. :)

I only own a beginners acoustic guitar, and I'm ready to buy a good quality acoustic guitar. Price is not too important, but under $300-$400 would be great. I'm thinking about a Yamaha or Epiphone. What are some other good brands you would recommend?

Answer
I'm in Australia. I swear by Martinez, which is a Chinese brand we get a lot of down here. They have a lot of "solid top" guitars in that price range.

Solid top is good, because when your guitar has a solid top, the sound gets warmer and evolves over the years.

If you can find an Epi or Yami solid top in that price range, in your country, grab it. They're both good brands too.

What's the best acoustic guitar for under 800 dollars?

Zach

I'm a beginner but I'm looking for a good quality acoustic guitar for under $800. I really prefer a Martin or Taylor but am open for other suggestions. I'll be playing and singing country music mostly if that helps.

Answer
A yamaha fg700s would be perfect for you at youre stage and youll have 600 to go towards a martin or taylor for when youve got more experience and are more serious about playing. You wont get a decent martin or taylor with 800. If you want something a bit better than the fg700 then try a seagull s6 or a yamaha fg730s.simon and patrick and takamine are good quality too. For me,these are the best guitar brands under $800 to try out at a few stores. Dont buy a guitar for the name, buy one for the sound and feel.ive had most of the above until i needed better.all i play now is martins as i prefer them to everything else ive played, and ive played a lot and wasted money on a lot.the cheapest quality martin
You can get is a d1gt,everything cheaper is laminate mexico models.

What are some good acoustic guitars for beginners that are under or at least $200?

Like: Fenders, Yamaha, Epiphone, Gibson, ect.

Answer
Yamaha make good entrance level guitars as do Ibanez. Not a big fan of fender acoustics. Another one is Takamine, those are ok also. But I'd choose a yamaha. Best thing to do is go to guitar center or your local guitar/music shop and play some guitars to see what is comfortable and what they sound like. All guitars feel and sound different so that's why it's best to play them before you buy. If you don't know how to play anything ask the salesperson to play a few chords for you, dont be shy either, thats what they're there for. I wouldn't buy a gibson maestro at all so scratch that brand off your list unless you are spending $1000 for one.

How much does the average acoustic guitar cost?

Morte et D

So I want to learn to play acoustic guitar, and then one day learn to play an electric guitar. How much would the average acoustic guitar cost? Can you please also add some links for good acoustic guitars for beginners? :)

Answer
Do not buy any guitars sold at big box stores. The price may be attractive, but these are just toys that look like guitars. Don't be fooled by the guitars target sells that have the Gibson name on them. The maestro series is total junk and I don't know how Gibson ever licensed their name to this worthless junk.

Musician's Friend and Guitar Center sell the Epiphone DR-100 for between $99 and $129. This is the only guitar in that low of a price range that I would recommend. They are perfect for beginners and will make a great couch guitar when you advance and want something better.

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone-DR-100-Acoustic-Guitar-101558153-i1150079.gc

To get a better guitar you're looking at $299 and up, but don't need to have huge price tags.
Taylor is probably the best acoustic you can buy without having it custom made, but not everyone has $3000 to blow on a guitar. My favorite 6 string acoustic ever can be had for $399. While it is designed to be a jazz/swing guitar, I find it rocks for all genres.

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gitane-Cigano-Series-GJ10-Gypsy-Jazz-Guitar?sku=580375

Takemine and Ibanez have some decent student guitars at lower prices. you might want to look at those as well. Just search those names on musician's friend for more info.

if i play a standard 13" soprano ukulele tuned g c e a. what should a regular acoustic guitar be capo'd in for the chords to match.

because when i play with a friend despite us playing the same chords it sounds off. so i suppose the guitar has to be capo'd higher?

thanks in advance!

Answer
Capo the guitar at the fifth fret. If that does not work then one (or both) of the instruments are not tuned to proper pitch.
