I don't know anything about guitars sorry. What gear would he need? I want to get him lessons but want to make sure he has everything he needs. thanks for the help.

Answer
Well for starters an electric is not more expensive than an acoustic, also an acoustic body is very large for a kid that age. So I do not agree with the answer above. If you can find a kids size electric that would work. If not, the Epiphone Les Paul Jr. is a fairly small guitar and would work just fine. A little Line 6 Spider 15 watt amp would be a choice for an amp also.

What acoustic guitar is good for me?

JGL

I do NOT shop online by the way, lol.
I am a 14 year old, average sized girl who wants to play acoustic guitar.
I prefer going to Guitar Center and buying one, cheaply priced.
Preferably $250 - $300 or under.
Links please, if possible?

I just want to know a good brand for acoustic guitars. Not a little guitar for young kids.

thank you :)

Answer
the Ibanez starter pak has a good guitar, a gig bag, a strap, a tool pouch, an electronic tuner all for about $100. Many manufacturers have a similar starter pak or guitar center can put one together for you. You should not need to spend more than $200 for a good beginner instrument. I definitely suggest investing in guitar lessons to insure that you will get the most out of your purchase

Well ij ust got a guitar and my friend who is the lead guitar for a metal band is going to teach me how to play. i have very long fast fingers which i know is an advantage for starters. what else will make me a good guitar player?

Answer
You must love music and have an innate musical ability. Do you sing frequently, at least by yourself? Do you hear music in your head some or most of the time ? Do you feel a need or drive to create music and join with other like minded folks.? As a kid , did you take piano or any other instrument lessons? Sing in a church choir? I hope it's an acoustic guitar because it's better to learn with initially. It has been said that the guitar is one of the easiest instruments to play poorly but one of the most difficult to play well !--best wishes

What guitar type should I start with? Acoustic or Electric?

Hey, I want to learn how to play the guitar as a new hobby, and so of course I need a guitar to play on. I'm totally new to playing music pretty much (I only played a little piano as a kid). So what should I start on, acoustic or electric? Have any recommendations? Also, if I got an electric guitar, would it work/sound like an acoustic unplugged? Thanks for reading or answering :D <3~!

Answer
Electric! As a beginner, the hardest part is pushing the strings down all the way -- and electric guitars are easier in that aspect.

Electric guitars really do need some sort of amplifier for them to truly work. If you're worried about loudness -- 99% amplifiers have a headphone jack. If you're tight on cash I HIGHLY recommend the Fender Squier Starter Pack (comes with guitar, amp, case, tuner, etc). It's the perfect beginner set up.

i'm 13 and i have never played acoustic guitar in my life. I want to be able to play at least one instrument and the acoustic guitar just screams to me for some reason. I want to know your opinions if i should buy one. if you think i should buy one do you have any suggestions on what to get. remember im 13 so i don't have a job. Christmas is coming up soon so please help.

Answer
Most guitar makers offer a good "starter pak" like Fender or Epiphone or Ibanez. They come with a good quality acoustic guitar, a gig bag, a strap, and some other accessories for about $100. DO NOT BUY a guitar from Walmart or Target or any other big box stores because they are essentially toys for kids and not very good quality guitars. Buy from a local music store who can help you with the purchase. It is a very good idea to also take lessons to get you started on the right track. Good luck and have fun!
