best acoustic guitar for 8 year old image

Pink1967

My 8 year old daughter wants to learn how to play guitar. I bought her a kids guitar last year but it's so cheap that the strings don't stay tuned and the fret board is loose. I'd like to get her an acoustic guitar but one that's smaller so she can learn to play it well. I want to spend under $200 if possible.

Answer
Yamaha makes a relatively sturdy and very nice sounding guitar that you can probably get in a kit with a strap and tuner at Sam Ash or music123.com. It is a full-size guitar (but "full size" is relative, as it's smaller than most professional guitars), but I simply have not seen a child-size guitar that's made well. Let her try one at the store to make sure.

What are some good books that help kid's learn to play guitar?

I am getting my 8 year old brother an acoustic guitar for christmas and i want to find some books that would help him learn how to play it.

Answer
Get him this http://mrzip.biz/nc . It's what I used when first starting to play and 2 years later still using it. I can probably say that I'm very good at playing now and people love to hear me play. Hopes this helps him. :)

How much does an acoustic guitar cost in Copenhagen, Denmark?

best acoustic guitar 2000 image
Q. I am most likely moving to Copenhagen, Denmark in the fall and instead of bringing my acoustic guitar I am thinking of selling it here and buying a new, decent one there. Both as a means to not have to bring it and as a means for just a change. Answer in DKK or Dollars, please. Thanks!

Answer
I guess it really depends on what quality you want. I used to play acoustic guitar (classical music), and you get a wide variety of prices.

My cousin used to work for this large music-shop in Copenhagen, http://www.aage.dk/ .
If you go to the page click on "guitar og bas" in your left hand side, and then "guitarer" and then "klassisk/spansk". Then you get a price list of the classical guitars. Prices start at DKK 500 - but for a good one spend DKK 2000.

You can see another price list here for another shop:
http://www.guitarshop.dk/group.asp?group=99&sub=99

Høfner Guitars are very decent, and you can get one for DKK 1100.

If you enjoy listening classical guitar music watch out for Kaare Norge, who is probably the best danish classical guitar musician. You can download samples of his music on his website http://www.kaare-norge.dk/uk_version/index.htm (scroll down on your right hand side).
He often gives koncerts - it is well worth going!

What acoustic guitar should I buy in my price range?

The Oasles

I have two electric and one nylon string guitar and have decided to buy an acoustic guitar with steel strings. It has to have a microphone and strap pins. I'm currently interested in the Epiphone EJ-160e and EJ-200CE, and it shall not be more expensive than the EJ-160e.
Thanks in advance!

Answer
I know this sounds strange, but in the price range you are looking at, I would check out Yamaha. They make several that would fit your budget, and even though they may not be the first brand that pops into most people's minds as far as guitars are concerned, their quality is excellent, and their sound projects really well. I have owned similar Epiphones to those you are referring to, and one of them was great, the others suffered from several quality control issues, and none of them were nearly loud enough unplugged. They all had very small, wispy frets, and the electronics were mediocre if not bordering on inadequate. If you like Epiphones, I would however check out the used market for the Masterbilt series. They still make a couple of them new, but seem to constantly be axing current models and re-rolling out old ones. With an Epiphone acoustic, always avoid mahogany. They sound dead, lacking bass and treble response, and do not resonate. However, one strum on a Masterbilt using rosewood for the body will make you think you are playing a $2000 guitar, and they are around the price you are willing to pay.

Good luck!

I want to buy an acoustic guitar, but their expensive. The only cheap ones i found were colored and i do not want a colored guitar i want a nice vintage standard rosewood, mahogany color those type of guitars. Can someone recommend a website where there is cheap guitars under lets see $100 :) thanks.

Answer
I've played the guitar for years, and I think your best bet is either your local craigslist.org, or any local classified listings online. Alternatively, I have noticed some very good prices on EBay and Amazon, but often the shipping costs are very high. There has been the occasional good deal on EBay with free or low shipping, though, so depending on your patience level, it could be worth a look. Guitar Center is national, so maybe they have reasonable shipping - they have periodical blow-out sales. Good luck!

How much should I spend on my first acoustic guitar?

Q. I just want a decent acoustic guitar that's not so cheap that I have to tune it every 5 minutes.

Answer
I understand that, good acoustic guitars should run you at least 250. Look at pawn shops and craigslist to find cheaper ones that are of the same quality.

Should I get my violin valued?

cheap acoustic guitars for sale uk
on Acoustic Guitars For Sale 2013 - Full Reviews of Acoustic Guitars For ...
cheap acoustic guitars for sale uk image

Becca

If you know about the prices of violins in the UK, please answer!

I got my violin 7 or 8 years ago, and I think it cost £1-1.5k, plus a bow that at least does it justice. It's German, circa 1850-1880. Those are the only details I have, except that it has a lion's head for a scroll and I love it!
I'm just wondering how much it would sell for if I were to do a part exchange - my plan is to (possibly) buy a slightly cheaper acoustic instrument so that I can get an electric one too.

Any advice? Thanks :)
please only answer if you actually about this stuff, thanks

Answer
An instrument's true worth is not the same as it's trade-in value. There's certainly no harm in getting an appraisal for your violin, although I would use that more for insurance value than a re-sale guide. You know what you paid for the violin and bow...the value of a 150 yr old instrument probably hasn't doubled or anything in the past 8 years. As you know, every violin is different. Old German violins are generally of good quality, but certainly not rare. Back then, Germany pumped those things out the way China makes guitars today. You can't use eBay or other instruments as a guide...your violin is unique and it's value is in the construction, sound, and character, not the maker's name. (if it's even known) I know that it must have seemed like a lot of money when you bought it, but in the world of violins...at least by the values here in the US....your violin is just considered a mid-priced student model.

Music shoppes won't offer you anything close to what they hope to sell your violin for, because they need to make a profit. They also tend to shy away from deals that don't involve trading up.....in other words, they like to see come cash as part of the deal. If you sell the violin in a private sale, the buyer will be hoping to get a better deal than at a string shoppe and may even want to get their own appraisal before paying out that much money...I would. So getting your instrument appraised isn't a bad idea...just don't expect to be able to leverage the full appraised value into a sale or trade. Use it as a very loose validation as to the replacement value. Regardless of what a slip of paper says, the true monetary value of your violin is what somebody will actually pay you for it.

My gut feeling is to hold on to the violin if you like it, and save for an electric one.

Anyone know of any good online sites for free Acoustic Guitar lessons? I am a beginner... sooo.... Any sites for beginners would be good. Thanks!

Answer
Try cyberfret.com. Practice some of their beginner guitar lessons, chords, etc., every day for an hour or two, until you feel comfortable and confident enough with your chords and finger placements. Listen to tones and learn to recognize chords by their sound, then practice with songs you hear and like. The key is practice, practice, practice. By learning proper ways and tones of chords, and then moving towards simple songs you like, you will be able to recognize your own style more and get a feel of (1) the proper way to play chords and (2) your own methods of playing. Once you get a handle on this, seek out others to jam with, because that will keep you motivated to play more, and will allow you to learn from others as well.

What is a good beginner acoustic guitar for teen girls?

acoustic guitar beginner size image

Rachie

I'm 5'1 and my hands are very small. I need a good beginners acoustic guitar for a reasonable price. Also, what size would you suggest for me since my hands cannot fit around a full size guitar? Thanks!

Answer
Rachie,

The best way to find the right guitar is to go and play on several different ones.

You will be safe if you start looking along the lines of a Yamaha, Ibanez, Alvarez, Fender and possibly a Takemine.

I would ask the sale people to assist you in finding acoustics with slim necks, but you will definitely want a full body. Stay away from the small toy guitars.

http://www.all-things-acoustic-guitar.com/beginner-guitar.html covers this topic in depth, as well as many other aspects of the acoustic guitar. You might want to check it out to help in your research.

Good Luck

Is Taylor a good brand of acoustic guitars for beginners?

I can sort of play the keyboard, I do not really play any other instruments. I cannot read music notes but I know the basics. I want to become a singer/songwriter and I want to learn to play the acoustic guitar. As a beginner I found two Taylor acoustic guitars online at Best Buy that are cheap enough for me to save my money and buy one of them. I would like to know if it is a reliable brand for beginners.

Answer
Taylor makes great guitars so in general, you can't go wrong with that. However, buying guitars online can be something of a hit and miss affair when you're just starting out.

You really should be able to try the guitars first before you decide to purchase the instrument or not.

I suspect you've been looking at the Baby Taylor guitars. Although these are good guitars, they are not full size. They are somewhat limited in volume and tone. You should really go for a regular full size steel string acoustic. And again, you definitely want to try this out for yourself...

You will definitely do best if you buy from a dedicated guitar/music dealer. Oh, and stay well away from First Act instruments. These are nothing but kids toys.

Edited for spelling errors...

I am going to start going to a guitar class every Saturday. I was wondering what type of Acoustic guitar would be good for a beginner? I am planning to play in a talent show when time comes, and I want to possibly be decent at that time. So, which kind will be good for a beginner like me?

Answer
Firstly, whatever type of guitar you get do not get a "cheap" guitar. A cheap guitar will be impossible to tune, impossible to play and will sound terrible. All it will do is put ypu off learning.

You need to decide whether you want nylon or steel strings. If you have no preference I would go for a steel string guitar. You do not need an expensive guitar made from solid timbers and with lots of decoration but you need a reasonable instrument suitable for a beginner. Buy from a music store, not on-line and not from a department store. Do not buy anything in a sealed box. You need to try the actual guitar you are going to buy, not just one like it. If possible take someone with you who plays, to advise you, or at least get the salesman/woman to play it for you. Get a spare set of strings and a tuner at the same time (you might get a better deal) and a strap and picks if you want them. Get them to show you how to use the tuner. There are lots of reasonable guitar brands for beginners but you might want to look at Yamaha, Jasmine or Epiphone. Good luck and have fun.

What type of acoustic guitar should I get?

Majno L

I will get an acoustic guitar for xmas. I am really new to this so I do not really know the differences.

nylon/steel/bronze strings?

jumbo/drednought/western?

Which one should I choose as a beginner? Could you also suggest brands?

Thanks in forward

Answer
A nylon string guitar is called a classical guitar. It is used almost exclusively for playing classical music. Unless you're interested in playing classical music, don't buy one. I think you'd be better off buying a regular steel-string acoustic guitar.

Jumbos and dreads are large guitars that many people, especially women, find too large to play comfortably. I always recommend that people start with a grand concert or auditorium (also called 00 and 000, respectively) size guitar.

There are many fine brands for beginners including Seagull, Yamaha, Epiphone, and Ibanez. Go to a store in your area and have the salesperson play them for you until you find one you like. Try holding it so you can be sure it fits you comfortably.

Hey,

Answer
You have two good choices. You can either get the strap gizmo that Alax V showed you, or you can take your guitar to a good tech and have him install a strap button on the heel of the neck on the treble side. But don't use a shoelace under any circumstances unless you too wish to break your guitar.

Are there any free web sites that will teach me how to play guitar?

Answer
Hello there,

Don't know how much you have learned so far, so I will start at the beginning. Here is a link to a video lesson at Youtube. This guy has a series of 12 lessons available there at Youtube. You can find the other lessons in the related videos section. He covers the basics very well. You can learn a lot from him. He uses an electric in the videos, but most of the material translates well to the acoustic.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxhxIV0I5T8&feature=related

Next is an article about how to read tabs. The more common way of writing guitar music these days is in what is called tabs.
http://www.howtotuneaguitar.org/lessons/the-basics/how-to-read-guitar-tab/

Here is a link to a chord chart. It is several pages long. You can look up how to finger various chords with this. Download this PDF file to your computer. It comes in handy when you need to look up a chord.
http://www.guitarnotes.com/guitar/notes2/ultimate11.shtml

When you are ready to start learning some songs, you can search for the tabs. Just Google the name of the song and the word tabs. A common site you will see with guitar tabs is 911 Tabs. There are many, many others. Also, at Youtube search the song name and the words lesson or how to play. There are a great many good video lessons on songs there

Many beginners seek out easy songs. That is okay I guess. I think a better way is to try to learn your favorite songs. Because they are favorites that gives you the motivation to learn them, even if they are hard. You need to tackle some challenges to improve.

However, here is a link with some easy songs. Maybe there are some you will like to learn.
http://www.guitarnoise.com/easy/

I suggest you try working in some songs into your practice routine fairly quickly. One, that makes practice more fun. It is more fun to play songs than finger exercises. Second, trying to play songs gives you a better feel of how all the stuff you are learning fits into playing. Don't go nuts trying to find the easiest song to start with. Pick any song you like. Add a few bars of that song to your practice session. Just play that riff from the song over and over. Then for the next practice session add a few more bars of the song. Play the previous riff and the new riff over and over. Repeat the process with each practice session. Soon you will have your first song down. You really do need to learn the basics of how to play (like that guy covers in his video lessons), but trying to play songs help put those lessons into perspective. You won't have to ask yourself why you have to learn all this boring stuff, because you will have already seen the answer (you need it to play songs well).

At some point in time, you are probably going to want a good instructor for private lessons. Check at local guitar shops. They can recommend a local teacher. They may offer lessons in store.

Later,

I really want to get a condenser mic to record myself playing my acoustic. But I have no idea where to even start. Like do I plug the mic into my computer? And what recording software would you recommend?

Answer
Condenser microphones require phantom power, so you will at least need some sort of interface capable of providing that.

But short of the microphone and a proper audio interface, you don't need much else. Pretty much any interface you buy will come with some sort of recording software. The M-Audio Fast Track interfaces are pretty nice for the price. They certainly aren't high end, but they're a good cheap way to get into home recording.

Im looking for a studio recording program, mainly for just vocals and acoustic guitar. Im looking for something simple that can merge two separate recordings, for instance recording the guitar and vocals separate. The price does not matter.

Answer
Audacity is a simple, free recording software. you can multi-track, mute channels etc, bog standard vocal effects etc. and its simple to get hold of, create imputes etc.

if you are looking to spend a bit of money, cubase is great, i've been using it for years to make full on songs and remixes. but thats if you have money, lots of time on your hands to learn, and a good enough computer to run without latency problems.

Answer
Hi Barry,

At $500 being your limit, you're getting in the ballpark of being able to get an all-solid wood guitar, which would be a nice step up from a solid-top, laminate back/sides guitar. That being said, though, you can still get some great solid top guitars that you'll be happy with for a while. Here are a few that Amazon has that are in your price range:
- (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B8J97K?ie=UTF8&tag=choos02-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001B8J97K) - Blueridge is making some great, affordable guitars. This one is a nice, affordable dreadnought with electronics, so it's going to have a good low end like you want, and the Engelmann spruce top which will give you a richer, more complex tone than Sitka.

- (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003H5A93I?ie=UTF8&tag=choos02-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B003H5A93I) - Epiphone can put out good guitars, though they can sometimes be inconsistent. At this price, though, I think this could be a good option. Solid spruce top, solid mahogany back (laminate sides). Dreadnought shape like the Blueridge will give you the good low end that you're looking for.

I think those are the only two on Amazon right now that are acoustic-electrics worth considering. What may be a good option, though, is getting a straight acoustic for that money. At $500, you'll have a few great options. And then, once you want to get out and perform with it, you can buy and install a pickup pretty cheaply and easily.

Good luck!

What is the best beginner acoustic guitar?

questionma

I am planning on starting guitar lessons. Obviously an acoustic is the right way to go in the beginning, so I'm wondering if anyone can give me suggestions as to what guitar I should pick up. I heard the Seagull S6 is a good choice for a reasonable price.

Can someone suggest an acoustic guitar that is under 500 dollars with a good rich sound?

Ideally, the guitar could be found in the bay area (california, like san francisco) :)

Thanks!

Answer
the best bet is any ibanez product. I personally prefer Fender products, but they can prove to be expensive(300-400).Ibanez puts out good starter instruments with good features and are affordable to start .A entry level acoustic or electric could run 200-300 dollars.
Then when you get your skill up, ditch it and buy a Fender. They tend to have a resale value.

I am 13 (and this is a guy, using his sister yahoo account) and I want to learn how to play the Acoustic guitar. I was wondering if you know of any youtube online begginner's lessons. I would also like to know what a reasonable price for a quality new Acoustic guitar. Or a secondhand guitar. Are there any tips you have for purchasing a guitar? Or things I could do to help learning the guitar easier? Finiger excercises or something. All answers appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
Since you are totally new, everything will be a mystery to you. Go to a guitar store, and speak with someone who knows. A decent acoustic guitar will cost around $200+, but you might be able to get a good used guitar for less. Take some lessons first to learn the basics, otherwise you will have trouble understanding what you are trying to learn. In the mean time, here are some beginner sites. Good luck.

Should I learn to play the guitar?

michie

I was thinking about a gift for my birthday and I knew I've always 'sort of' wanted to play. I havent really thought of doing it for awhile. It just wasnt on my mind. I used to want to play the electric but recently have been more fond of the acoustic.

I get myself excited about things when I think about them so I'm not sure if I even want to. Will it be hard? I have an AWFUL habit of giving up when things get rough, even though I know It will eventually get better. I know obviously learning guitar won't be easy, but still.

Would it be worth it to get it? I could end up having the thing stuck in the back of closet for the rest of my life. I am just really unsure if it's the right decision. Though I know once I learn I'll be really happy about it. I just hate the 'learning' part. Haha, I know I know, so does everyone else. :P

Also, is this a good beginner guitar?: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone-DR-100-Acoustic-Guitar-101392025-i1150077.gc#customer-reviews
EXPERT OPINION PLEASE(:
If anyone can recommend a CHEAP starter guitar that'd be nice(: BTW I'm taking music theory/history/other boring stuff class in school. So, I suppose that might help me a little. I should pay more attention in school... :P

The two best are Rudy's Music Stop on West 48th Street and Matt Umanov on Bleeker Street in the Village. The best acoustic guitar store in the world in Mandolin Brothers on Staten Island, a pleasant ferry ride away.

What type of acoustic guitar should I get?

delbert050

I'm looking to get a new acoustic guitar for a price range that only goes up to about $400ish.
Whats a some good acoustic guitars that fit into that price range?
and just a typical acoustic guitar

Answer
Your budget is a realistic one- you can get a very good instrument for under $400. Here are some guidelines that may help:

TYPE- Chances are, you are most likely to want a steel-string guitar- nylon strings are easier on your fingers, but the necks are wide, which makes reaching the top-most strings difficult.

BODY SIZE Most acoustic guitars sold have a "dreadnaught" sized body, with a large body (particularly the "lower bout,") which makes for a bassy sound, and can be hard to reach around for smaller folks. A better balanced sound comes from a smaller body, such as Seagull's "Folk" sized guitars, or Martin's 00 size.

FRET BOARD WIDTH Again, classical/nylon strings have rather wide fretboards, Dreadnaughts have quite narrow ones. Again, the Folk or OO has a good balance.

NECK THICKNESS Not usually an issue for acoustic guitars, most necks are of around the same thickness and "profile," so don't worry about it- if a guitar feels good when you wrap your fretting hand around the neck, and you don't have trouble reaching all six strings, that's good enough.

EXTRAS It seems many acoustic guitars have electronics added to them, so that you can play them though an amplifier or PA. You will see a small (2" x 2" or so) panel on the side of the guitar, facing you as you play it, that has bass, treble, etc. controls on it. Really, this is an expense you can easily do without- you may never "plug it in," this being your first guitar. There is one benefit to this, though- these days, this often includes a built-in tuner. In my opinion, a pickup/preamp (what this assembly is called) is pointless UNLESS it includes a tuner, but perhaps worth the little extra money if it does have a tuner.
A plain-top guitar will cost you far less than a fancy, dolled-up one, and will play just as well, sound just as good- maybe even better.

BRANDS/MAKES Godin makes some excellent guitars, and terrific values. Art & Luthier, and Norman are their least-expensive brands, Seagull just a bit pricier. You should be able to stay within your $400 budget. Alvarez and Ibanez (not at all related, in spite of the association the "z's" inplies) are good brands, too, although I think Seagulls are, in most cases, better values. Epiphone makes some good guitars, but their lower-priced stuff (under $200 or 300) is suspect, avoid Epi's unless you are serious about spending $400 or more. Martins and Taylors are usually excellent guitars, but beware: if you find those examples of either in your price range, you are getting things like HPL (high pressure laminate- a manufactured product, only distantly related to wood), and "Made in China." Yup, a Martin made in China. What HAS the world come to?? Fender makes some good electric guitars, but AVOID their acoustics- Fender only makes acoustics because people know the name; their acoustics are not good values, nor are the particularly good guitars. A possible exception: Fender makes some very cool thin-body "Telecoustics," which are cool guitars, but be warned- they sound thin when played just acoustic- probably not what you are looking for.

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID: Almost ANYTHING made in China. probably Indonesia and Korea, too. Too much a crap shoot as to quality and even playability. Fortunately, most of the MIC "guitar-shaped objects" are aimed at the low-end market.

BEST PLACE TO BUY: Locally-owned, acoustic-orientated shop. If they have dozens or even hundreds of acoustic guitars hanging on the walls, and fewer electrics, AND your eyes bug out when you look at the first three or four price tags, YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE. They will have less expensive guitars, and 99% of the time, know their stuff plenty well enough to make sure you buy the right guitar. Yes, you will pay a bit more, but you get much more. You can do okay at places like Guitar Center, but the chances are far greater that you will walk out with a guitar that is not quite "right" for you.

best acoustic guitar for 8 year old image

My 8 year-old daughter (this week)wants to learn to play guitar. Her choice has varied between electric/classical/bass. She loves rock n roll music and most music generally but I'm not sure SHE knows exactly what she wants to learn. Will playing a video guitar game help learn guitar before we spend money on the real thing or will she pick up bad habits that may retard her learning progress later on?

Answer
Guitar Hero is a video game, and the "guitar" that comes with it is just a video game controller. Playing the game is nothing at all like playing a real musical instrument.

Comparing Guitar Hero to playing a real guitar is like comparing a flight simulator video game to flying a real airplane because they both use a joystick.

If she wants to play guitar, get her an acoustic guitar to start with, and some lessons -- regardless of what style of music she eventually wants to play, an acoustic guitar will get her started with the basics.

What is the best acoustic guitar to get for a beginner?

ILoveJBieb

I have a guitar already and it is really old and the strings have snapped. I am starting acoustic guitar lessons and I just wanted a good make guitar which is easy to play and good for beginners

Much appreciated :)

Answer
Nothing wrong with an old guitar if it still plays well. Might be worth $5 for a new set of strings just to see how it plays and sounds. I got an old guitar from my grandpa. It didn't look like much. The finish was checking and some strings were missing and one of the tuning pegs was bent. I, being young and stupid, tried to fix it up by sanding it and refinishing it. removing the bridge and "adjusting" it, and putting new tuners on it. Turns out it was an old Gibson Kalamazoo guitar which I complete ruined by trying to fix it up like a "new" guitar. Sorry guitar lovers it still breaks me up that I was so dumb too!

But if it's actually an old piece of junk or you just want a crisp new guitar, you can get some decent beginner guitars in the $100 range if you get one with a laminate top. Laminate (plywood) tops don't have the tone or sustain of a solid wood top but for a beginner the bigger thing is the playability of the guitar. The Takamine Jasmine is a decent guitar for a beginner on a budget (way better than comparably priced Dean, Gibson Maestro, and other sub $100 guitars). Guitar Center has a Mitchell guitar they sell for $129:
The full size dreadnought model:
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Mitchell-MD300S-Solid-Spruce-Top-Acoustic-Guitar-105769301-i1505586.gc
If you need a smaller bodied guitar there's this orchestra model:
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Mitchell-MO100S-Solid-Top-Orchestra-Guitar-105343248-i1460870.gc

At just around $200 my favorite is the Yamaha FG700S. It's a full size dreadnought with a solid spruce top. Yamaha makes excellent beginner guitars and I recommend these to many of my students who want a bit better beginner guitar that will last them a few years.
If you want a smaller body the Yamaha FS720S is a great option but you're getting up in the $275ish price range now. Still a good guitar if you want something smaller bodied but still a full size guitar.
You're right to realize people have preferences when it comes to choosing guitars and I'm sure some very experienced guitarists on here will disagree with some of my recommendations and have options of their own that are equally good. The ones I'd avoid (again my preference and experience picking guitars for my students) are:
Dean - I've played several of their lower end guitars and the majority are just unplayable because they are set up so badly from the factory. They buzz, are difficult to fret and have horrid intonation.
Fender - If you want a strat or telecaster or a good tube amp then Fender's great, but they're acoustic guitars just don't have the tone you'd expect from Fender.
Gibson Maestro - yuck! Why waste $100 on one of these toys when you can get a real guitar like the Takamine Jasmine for the same price?
Ibanez - again, great electric guitars and basses but their acoustics, while they play OK just don't have the tone I like.
Epiphone - some are OK but not the cheaper ones. If you love Gibson and want to look like you own one from a distance they're OK but not music to my ears. Besides my first guitar was an Epiphone and it was a bear to try to play. They have chunky necks and high action which are not ideal for an 8 year old learning to play guitar (that's what I was, no idea how old you are).
Yamaha is much better than those for the price (again just my opinion).
