I really want to get a condenser mic to record myself playing my acoustic. But I have no idea where to even start. Like do I plug the mic into my computer? And what recording software would you recommend?

Answer
Condenser microphones require phantom power, so you will at least need some sort of interface capable of providing that.

But short of the microphone and a proper audio interface, you don't need much else. Pretty much any interface you buy will come with some sort of recording software. The M-Audio Fast Track interfaces are pretty nice for the price. They certainly aren't high end, but they're a good cheap way to get into home recording.

What is the best music recording software for windows?

Sgt Pepper

Im looking for a studio recording program, mainly for just vocals and acoustic guitar. Im looking for something simple that can merge two separate recordings, for instance recording the guitar and vocals separate. The price does not matter.

Answer
Audacity is a simple, free recording software. you can multi-track, mute channels etc, bog standard vocal effects etc. and its simple to get hold of, create imputes etc.

if you are looking to spend a bit of money, cubase is great, i've been using it for years to make full on songs and remixes. but thats if you have money, lots of time on your hands to learn, and a good enough computer to run without latency problems.
