Answer
Acoustic guitar?YAMAHA?dude, have you heard Andy Mckee? try searching him on youtube, esp. his rendition of "Africa", he's got great masterpieces for acoustic guitar, man! you've got to see him perform in his Andrew white guitar. after seeing him in youtube, visit candyrat.com to see his album and guitar pieces, but i think they're not for free..so sad. anyway, if you really want to learn and "showoff" to other people, i think learning one of his pieces may do the trick. try this URL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dt1fB62cGbo enjoy!

What is the best Takamine Acoustic-Electric Guitar for under $700?

Lauren

I'm looking for a Takamine Acoustic-Electric guitar for my husband for Christmas. The only reason I know what brand I'm even looking for is because he had mentioned it. I know basically nothing about guitars. So, if anyone could help me, I would REALLY appreciate it. I don't really want to spend over $700 on the guitar itself. I plan on buying a case and a stand too, but that will be separate from the $700 guitar price. If anyone has any ideas for a Takamine Acoustic-Electric that's no more than $700, please let me know. There are too many model types, and I am so confused! :) Thank you!

Answer
In my personal experience with that brand of Guitar the best in my opinion is the Takamine EG530SC Cutaway Acoustic Electric Guitar. They sell online for around $600 which is right in your price range. They last a long time and the quality is amazing. I would highly recommend it. It isn't a beginners guitar and has all the bells and whistles pro guitarists look for. This guitar stays tuned very well and has a consistent sound. I think your husband would be very happy with this guitar for many years to come. They last forever and the sound quality never fades. I hope this helps, I know it is hard to make a decision without knowing much about guitars. This brand is a great choice though, your husband will not be disappointed with this guitar!

What type of wood is good for building an acoustic guitar?

I wanna build a nice acoustic guitar with good sound not a cheap walmart brand what type of wood would that be?

Answer
Are we talking classical or steel string acoustic? They use different woods.

I'm a girl who has an interest in woodworking and instrument building. (I even went to a violin making school for a while) I was interested in making a classical guitar, so I got a good book to see how it was done. Good grief!!! Let's just say I haven't made one yet! haha People DO make them, however, and if you want to give it a try, get some good books on making the kind of guitar you like, then be prepared to spend some $$$$ to get started.

Here's my favorite company for guitar tonewood and tools (even though I haven't made one). http://www.lmii.com

Best luck!!

How should I clean an acoustic (wood) guitar?

kris_light

A little kid got marshmalow on my guitar and I need a safe way to get it off.

Answer
It depends on the finish on the guitar, how old it is, what make and model. If it is a collectible, let a professional tech do it. What ever you do. Don't use an oil based solvent. It will ruin the finish and stain the wood. If the finish is thick or new, then a damp cloth should do it. A marshmallow is only puffed up sugar so water alone should dissolve it but go slowly and in stages and allow to dry in between treatments if the wood is getting wet. Water will dissolve the glue in the guitar and warp the wood if you use to much at once.

What songs to cover on acoustic guitar?

Morgan

Hi there :)

I'm an acoustic cover artist. I usually go out busking but recently someone who heard me offered me a job in their pub, singing and playing guitar - Yes I am chuffed to bits.

Only I'm starting to really panic as I have a bit of a memory issue so I always take my music with me everywhere. It also means those classic songs you hear as a kid like Babylon - David Gray and others I can't think of right now.. well that's my point... I can't remember them. Not lyrics, names or artists.

What songs would you advise I look into learning? I wanna play well known ones that will go well on acoustic guitar. I'd say my style is kind of Nina Nesbitt cross Eva Cassidy cross well pretty much any female acoustic artist.

Thanks!!

Answer
Wow - a job offer! Good on you! Buff up everything you already know, and learn some more of the same basic style stuff - not a good time to go wandering. Try to think of what you were playing when the "patrone" wandered by, and stay with that stuff, as that's what he/she will expect. Sure, branch out a bit, and that can work out, too, as one hour of the same old same old gets old. You maybe got an "act" going. What is it?

Here's a couple of acoustic tunes I love, anyway:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoSn2Y-b6wI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tee61YGheaA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94bdMSCdw20

That stuff is maybe about the top of the hill, but there are a lot of hills. A little 'flat pickin' from Bob D, more from Guthrie, Donavan, et al. in that mood:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzW8wvRJI1w
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BS8RZsOZ1Dw

PS - A tune from my Tru Love, not a pure "acoustic", but can be...

Do this justice, and I'll plop down ten bucks to see you. Best of luck to you.

Learn to play acoustic guitar.?

Alice

I play bass, (started a few months ago) and I am also learning to play the keyboard better (I'm okay-ish) But, I have absolutely no Idea about anything concerning other instruments. I really want to learn the acoustic guitar... So, yeah. I can't read guitar tabs, I don't know anything about chords really besides that you play them with your left hand on the keyboard.

So, my question is, does anyone know a FREE website, where I can learn everything from scratch? I mean everything. Notes, Tabs, so on. From beginning to end, where in the end I'd like to be able to play random music sheets and tabs of my own choice. I just... know nothing! Oh, by the way, please don't say something like get a teacher or something. I can't, the town I live in is too small and... You get the picture. Also, don't post 'I don't know'. I'm quite certain you just thought about doing that. I just want serious answers. Thanks.

what's the best sounding jumbo acoustic guitar for under $1000?

KitKat

should I go with Epiphone?

Answer
I've found that most Jumbo bodied guitars have a tubby sound to them and just generally feel awkward to me. The only Jumbo body guitar I can think of in your range that is worth mentioning are the Epiphone EJ-200. You have to be careful in seeking this guitar. Many dealers tag the Epiphone Jumbos as "J-200" to attract those who desire a Gibson J-200. I know of at least one corporate based retailer that did this with Epiphone's cheaper AJ-200. They tagged it as a J-200 and had it priced above the MSRP of $249 but below the MSRP of the more expensive EJ-200, effectively misleading unsuspecting buyers. The AJ-200 was discontinued by Epiphone, but is still in stock at some places.

Check the label inside the guitar, to make sure it is an EJ-200, if you are hell bent on getting a J-200 for under $1000. If this is the case, you may also want to take a look at used Gibson J-200's. They can sometimes be found for a little over $1000 used. The only other Jumbo that you can get used for under $1000, that is worth mentioning is the discontinued Ibanez AJS1180ECENT Artwood Series Jumbo Cutaway AcousticâElectric Guitar. This Jumbo has a cut away and has a pickup. I am not certain if that is desirable to you or not.

Taylor and some other smaller high end guitar makers have some nice Jumbo guitars, but unless you get extremely lucky, you're not going to find a used one for under $2000.

You may want to re-think as to why you want a Jumbo. I can honestly only think of a few great guitar players that use them. You usually see Jumbos being strummed on by country singers, just using basic chords. If you just want a guitar with large bout, you may want to consider the Taylor 214 series. They start at $799 and come in several varieties. If you are just looking for acoustic volume, it's not always the body size that does it. The Selmer-Macaferri "egg hole" Design is probably the loudest acoustic guitar out there, but these have a quite small body, compared to typical acoustic guitars. I got a Gitane GJ-10 because of an interest in Gypsy Jazz, but due to it's exceptional tone and volume, it has become my go-to acoustic. You can get these with a hardshell case for around $500. I like the sound and feel of this guitar far better than most higher end acoustics that I have personally played.

So, think and try before you buy. A guitar's brand, style and price does not always determine it's sound.

Acoustic guitar vs electric?

john

I play acoustic guitar and I'm decent at it but I'm getting an electric, will this be easier or harder? Any tips? What's the pros and cons?

Answer
It is very common to believe that acoustic guitar is so much harder to play. This may be true due to the fact that acoustic steel string guitars are heavier than most electric guitar strings.

Also, you have the fact that most of the acoustic guitars are not properly adjusted off the shelf ... to put it mildly. A steel string acoustic which has been perfectly set up with light strings can be just as easy to play as an electric guitar.

Then there's the sound box on acoustic guitars. The size of it versus the thinner bodies on electric guitars tend to make the former more of a handful for some players - in particular if you're talking about big Jumbo of Dreadnought style guitars.

Nylon string guitars have wide, flat necks, longer scale (with more distance between frets) and high action by design. This makes these guitars typically harder to play than electric as well as most steel string guitars ...even if the strings themselves (nylon) are easier on the fingers.

It is pure nonsense to talk about not strumming on electric guitars. A well versified guitar players can, and often times will, play electric and acoustic guitars exactly the same way. The only difference is really the fact that you can hook up the electric guitar to effects an amp/s.

And yes, you can hook up an acoustic-electric guitar much the same way. It will not respond and sound like an electric guitar though. It can be pretty close if you use a sound hole pickup...

The versatility is perhaps bigger with an electric. That said, you can do things with an acoustic guitar that you can't replicate on an electric solid body guitar - like tapping the guitar body and making rhythm patterns, "beats" etc.

A con with electric guitar is the added cost of amps, leads, effects and all that jazz. With an acoustic guitar, you can be set with just the guitar.

Edited for spelling errors.

Inexpensive but good quality acoustic guitar for beginner?

Evil Tuffy

My mom has a cheaper quality guitar from Rittmiller (london drugs) and I hate it. I can't stand practicing on it because the neck is so wide.
I'm looking for an acoustic guitar that has a thinner neck and would be easier for skinny fingers but also has a nice tone to it.
I've heard really good things about Ibanez and Yamaha.
I'm looking at the Ibanez Jam Pack (black dreadnought) as it's around $150. Ideally, my price point would be around $100~.

Answer
Hey, Tuffy. I've played guitar for a WHILE. It seems to me that the Jasmine S34C NEX Acoustic Guitar by Takamine would be a great choice for you and is in the price range you need. Here's a link you can follow to read about it.

What acoustic guitar is best for beginners but still inexpensive?

Jennifer

I want to buy a guitar for the first time. I'm on a tight budget so a guitar around $100 but no more than $200. I don't know too much on which brands are best. So I would like to know if there is a certain brand that is best for beginners. And what is the difference between nylon stringed and steel stringed guitars?

Answer
Whatever you go for check the type of wood (e.g spurce, mahogony etc) they type of wood has a big effect on the sound of the guitar. Also don't go buy some cheap crap off Ebay - i did that once and found out after it fell over that the truss rod(the big piece that runs down the inside of the guitar neck into the body) was made out of plastic instead of metal.

The Difference between nylon(or the old "cat gut") guitars and steel stringed is typically the former is used for playing "spanish style" guitar while the latter more contemporary or modern stuff - I'd go for the later unless your into classical or spanish style guitar playing - The steel strings are much harder to press down on, but if you keep up the practice your fingers will strengthen up after a few months.

I learnt a few Oasis songs, some by John Mayer, sting and a few Judas Priest Riffs!!, I'd stick to acoustic guitar players first - or blues, anything slower and easier before jumping into heavy metal complex riffs etc. - Just pick something you like and learn a few new bars every couple of days to keep your interest alive and break up the lessons.

Also if your internet savy and know how to DL stuff - check out "Learn and Master Guitar" by Steve Krentz - its hands down THE best guitar tutorial series out there.

Just remember - mastery is about reaching a plateau or wall and then doing what most people don't do - Moving through it.

btw branding on guitars that price really isn't going to matter much - best to go to the shop and get some advice after googling some research.

What is the best Acoustic guitar for beginners? ?

dreaming_w

Well I played a little over the summer and I had a lot of fun. I'd like it to be under 500$. Over the summer the guitar I played on had some plastic strings. But I think I'd like to try medal strings.
Any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Firstly, you need to know how to choose a good guitar.

When you are new to playing the guitar, it is only natural to be apprehensive about which guitar should you purchase and how much you should pay for it. Yes, there are many factors to consider when you are choosing a the good beginner's guitar. Here are some tips you should keep in mind when choosing a guitar to buy.
Tips for buying Guitar

Buying the right guitar may not be an easy choice for you. It can be tiring, frustrating and sometimes you will just feel like buying the next guitar you see just so that you can stop looking for one. If you easily frustrated, you may feel like giving up the idea of learning how to play the guitar altogether.

Everyone will have different criteria when to buy the perfect guitar. However, you may not always be able to satisfy all of them at once. Just have a little patience and look around as much as you can so that will not regret later that you have bought a wrong guitar. Don't just buy the first guitar you see, visit as many music and guitar shops as you can just to get an idea of what is on offer.

You probably will have friends who have been playing the guitar for a while, so go to them and ask them for advice and tips on how to choose a guitar for a beginner like you. Someone who has been playing the guitar for sometime will be able to show you where to choose the best guitars for the best price.

Beginners are often offered package deals in most guitar stores. These deals often give you a free guitar strap, case, tuner and even free guitar lessons. This would be a good choice for a beginner because everything you need to learn how to play the guitar is provided for. If you want to be a good guitarist, buying a bad guitar would not only shortchange you but it might also disillusion you and dampening your enthusiasm in learning how to play the guitar. So it is always better to buy your guitar from reputed companies such as Yamaha, Ibanez, Fender, Gibson, Ovation, Martin, and Taylor.

You need not be embarrassed to try out and play the guitar at the shop since after all, you are paying for the guitar. Do check for sloppy gluing and also make sure that the guitar has a good solid top. Play the guitar as loudly as you want to because this is the best way of hearing the tonal quality of the music instrument. Play on every fret on the guitar neck to ensure there are no fret buzzes. This is something many aspiring new guitarists do not know. Never pay list price for a guitar because this is usually inflated, so do some hard bargaining with the sales staff.

If buying a brand new guitar is out of your budget, you may wish to consider getting a good quality second hand guitar. This is also an option especially if you are not sure if this is just a passing fad for you or whether you will stick playing the guitar for a long time to come. You could ask the music shops about getting good second hand guitars or you could look up classified ads, online ads and bulletin boards in the internet. Choose your guitar wisely.

High -quality acoustic guitars below $100.???

nazuki h.

uhmm my grandparents are at the US and they're asking me what i want them to buy. its either a set of books or a guitar. I want a guitar.. that's my final decision. I thought of Taylor guitars but wtf they cost about 2000 dollars. and we do not have that kind of money. I searched for Gibson,Ibanez, epiphone and they all cost exaggeratingly expensive... I need a high quality guitar below a hundred dollars... and i'm 15 btw..I need one ideal for country loving, pop rocking songstress like me..

Answer
Sorry, there is no such thing as a high quality or even decent quality guitar under $100. Anything that you might get in that price range will be cheap and shoddy in terms of material and workmanship, possibly just-barely OK for a beginner to start learning on, but once you develop any ability on the guitar at all, you will find its sound and playability completely unsatisfactory and want to upgrade to a better quality instrument as soon as possible. I wouldn't recommend any guitars under $100.

Ibanez and Epiphone are decent beginner level instruments for around $250. Sorry but that is about the minimum you will have to spend for a playable guitar that sounds decent.

To a great extent, you get what you pay for when you spend more for a guitar -- better quality tonewoods and hardware, better craftsmanship and construction, etc -- all of which produce superior sound and playability.

Acoustic guitar?

bubbaxrile

I really want an acoustic guitar, but I'm not sure what are good (quality) brands, and the different types. I don't want something super expensive, but it doesn't have to be cheap either. And any guitar related tips would really help! Thanks!

Answer
Okay...

The Brands that you DO NOT want:

Baja
First Act

The lowest priced (good quality) guitars:

Epiphone - (good, the necks are thin in width though)

Yamaha -(you can get a decent Yamaha, but like Epiphone the neck width is thin)

Washburn - (Washburn is a pretty decent one)

Takamine - Has some nice sounding cheaper ones

Now on the higher side of things these guitars have great sounds:

Martin --> Also has some cheaper ones

Taylor --> model 614 is my favorite

Gibson --> B25's are beautiful. Classics. Hummingbirds are popular with musicians such as James Morrison.

Good luck!

What's a good guitar for a 7 year old, just learning to play?

lalove

Answer
This is a tricky situation: on one hand, you don't want to buy an expensive instrument for a beginner, let alone a seven year old; on the other hand, entry-level instruments can be of such poor quality that they actually make it HARDER to learn to play, and can be quite discouraging to play- especially since they are so hard to keep in tune and properly set up, this can make it nearly impossible to see any progress.

Now, a lot of people think that you need to start with an acoustic to learn, but that's just not true. If you really want an acoustic, a nylon string "classical" style guitar is much easier on the fingers although it requires a lot of dexterity and flexibility. Steel string acoustics require a lot of finger strength that a seven year old probably doesn't have.

Your best bet for an electric would be an Epiphone Les Paul Jr. You can buy it as a complete package with amp, cable, picks, etc., on musiciansfriend.com for $120. I think this would be the easiest for a seven year old to learn on, and the amp that the kit comes with shouldn't be able to get loud enough to really annoy anyone.

What is the best acoustic guitar for a 7 year old child to begin learning on, not too expensive please.?

Q. My son has expressed an interest in learning how to play the guitar but I am not sure which one to buy. I don't want to pay too much as this may or may not be short lived. Can anyone advise please.

Answer
Go to a bricks and mortar music store and by a decent used guitar. They may even cut you a better deal if you sign the kid up for lessons there.

where is the love for the singer/songwriter/acoustic guitarist?

sabes99

i mean, these guys did some amazing work, how come we cannot or will not admit their contributions to the music world? i saw the other day someone claim that some heavy metal cover of james taylor's fire and rain was better than the original...sorry, there's just no way you can cover a song about a man's life and have it be better than the original, and adding noise does not improve it

so why can't we talk about the contributions of a james taylor, jim croce, or neil diamond to the music scene? why can't we admit that american pie is one of the greatest songs ever written in spite of the folk rock sort of sound? why are these things seemingly so tough to admit?

Answer
Consider your audience.... lots of younger people here, and generally speaking, young people want fast, loud, exciting, raging rock and roll.

Doesn't mean there are still TONS of us around who love singer/ songwriter/ acoustic guitar music. We're here, we're just not here in the numbers that the younger people are.

My kids may gripe about me playing my music, but I'm pretty sure it's soaking into their little psyches to some degree and they'll appreciate it some day. Or not. ;-)

And.... not to sell short all the people who do love this mellower sound ~ young and old (and that's not to say we don't love the raging stuff, too) ~ I've got a bunch of younger contacts here who love ALL music ~ not just the loud stuff.

Question for acoustic guitarists?

Lily Rose

hey guys. i was wondering, how much does an acoustic guitar cost. i want to learn how to play one, but i have to get one first. is there anyone who knows where i can get a guitar for a cheap price, but still it works alright? it doesn't have to be that cheap. im saving up my money, but the economy is bad, so it might take a while if i find one i like but really expensive. it doesn't have to be fancy. just a wooden guitar. i don't need a place to find lessons. im going to ask my friend if he can teach me, but thanks anyway. so if any of you can give me some tips too, that would be great. thanks

I want to buy a left handed acoustic guitar. I am a beginner. Any advice?

Moops

On type, how much I should consider spending (I am afraid too cheap will fall apart and too expensive is kind of unnecessary) Is the 3000 dollar acoustic really better than the 1000 dollar one? Or 100 dollar one? Am I buying the name? I don't really care about having a name brand or fancy looking guitar if they all work the same. Thanks for any advice you can give.

Answer
Basic advice: For a beginner, dont spend too much on a guitar. You might not end up liking it, or might not end up playing it much at all. I would get one for like 200 give or take and then practice, practice, practice. Once you get good enough, you should then go buy a better guitar.

Also, i would highly recommend taking guitar lessons. Guitar lessons produce amazing results rather than learning on your own.

Electric Guitar Advice?

augustrush

I am a beginner with guitars, I started playing about a year ago, and I play acoustic at the moment. Apparently learning electric guitar is a step up from that. Does anyone have any advice about picking out a guitar?

Answer
I don't know where this idea of needing to play acoustic guitar before you play electric guitar came from. It's no more difficult or complicated. They're different, yet very similar, instruments. If you want to play electric guitar, play electric guitar. You don't need to play acoustic guitar as some sort of goofy stepping stone (an idea that is, quite honestly, demeaning to acoustic guitarists)

My only advice is that you don't get the cheapest thing you can find. Those $100 boxes with a guitar/amp/etc are nothing but trash. Those things are basically for parents who don't support their children or their desire to learn music. You buy a crap instrument, you get crap results. There are so many things about a poor quality instrument that can fight you every step of the way. It won't stay in tune, the neck isn't straight, the intonation is off... basically, everything you play could sound terrible, and because you don't know any better, you'll think that you just suck. That's pretty discouraging!

Aim to spend at least $150 on the GUITAR alone. Personally, I would go a little higher, maybe $250. As far as entry level guitars go, Ibanez makes the best in my opinion. They aren't the best sounding instruments, but the build quality of a low-end Ibanez is MUCH higher than a Squier or the cheaper Epiphones.

Of course, how it feels in YOUR hands is extremely important, so head over to your local guitar store and see what they've got in the $150-$250 range.

For you first amp, I recommend one of the Roland Cube models. They're inexpensive, sound great, and are very versatile.

beginner at acoustic guitar?

Q. i want to find the easiest way to learn cause i get frustrated so easily but i always wanted to learn this so i don't want to give up. i don't want to learn how to read sheet music, is that okay? can i learn by chords or tabs? what do you recommend? please help.
BUT SOME OF THE CORDS I TRIED LEARNING THERE ARE MINOR MAJOR AND SOMETHIGN WITH A 5 OR 6 I THINK

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE. WHICH ONES DO I LEARN

Answer
If you get frustrated too easy, then you won't like my answer. There is no easiest way. It takes a lot of time, and dedication to learn how to play a guitar. It's going to take quite some time just to condition your fingers so you're not complaining that your fingers hurt. Anyone can make noise on a guitar. It takes an artist to play it. Been playing since the 60s.

What is the Best Acoustic Electric Guitar for ME?

Free

ok so my last experience with yahoo answers was not the best one, so i'm going ahead and stating that i will take all answers as suggestions, and nothing more. not to be mean, but there r some antagonistic ppl out there.
so i'm an amateur singer/song writer. i play guitar and sing for my christian rock band, Free Fall. (check us out on youtube- http://www.youtube.com/user/FreeFallchristian
and facebook- http://www.facebook.com/pages/Free-Fall/342385672455236 )
I've been playing guitar for about 7 years now, since i was 14. it's an old Fender Newporter that belonged to my grandpa. and i've been using a dean markey pick up for my amp. i also own an electric guitar, but it's not what i love. i love acoustic, but like i said mine is old and i really need something i can plug in a go, and not worry about a pick up.
so im ready to get an acoustic electric guitar, keep in mind i don't want to spend over $800. and our music style is a sound that would range from Shinedown to Lynard Skynard. and the Beatles to Lenny Kravitz. (funny how i'm a female singer, but love male dominate music)
and in case u need anymore info about my music style i kinda have a mix singing voice/style as Joan Jett and Etta James.
thanks please leave any suggestions :)

Answer
Hello there,

The old Fender Newporter guitars are very good guitars. You will not get a new electric acoustic of equal quality for less than $500. If you want a guitar that is better than what you have, pass over looking at all the beginner level guitars suggested so far. Look check out intermediate level guitars starting in the $500 range. By the way, you will have no problem selling your Fender Newporter. There is a strong market for those. They are great guitars.

electric or acoustic guitar?

Q. i like them both but which one should i use fist as a beginner all i know is the e chord

Answer
Acoustic offers good sound, low budget since you dont need guitar chords and amps. Also if you start out on acoustic, when you pick up an electric later on down the road it will be a LOT easier to play, giving you a boost to confidence.
On the other hand. Electric is easier to play starting out. But has added expenses as in Amp's and guitar chords.
If your going to start out learning rock and roll, just go electric because you just cant make master of puppets sound right on a acoustic.
Likewise, if you are going to play hank williams, then get an acoustic. Ol' Hank aint gonna sound right cranked up to 11 with full crunch going on.
Other things to consider? The reason you are beginning guitar. If youre getting into guitar to get a girlfriend. Get electric, Ever see how women dress at rock concerts? Because its easier to get their panties off and throw em at the guitarist!

All kidding aside. Get what you can afford vs. what type of music you are interested in learning.

What type of Acoustic guitar to play for beginner?

Z

I am going to start going to a guitar class every Saturday. I was wondering what type of Acoustic guitar would be good for a beginner? I am planning to play in a talent show when time comes, and I want to possibly be decent at that time. So, which kind will be good for a beginner like me?

Answer
Firstly, whatever type of guitar you get do not get a "cheap" guitar. A cheap guitar will be impossible to tune, impossible to play and will sound terrible. All it will do is put ypu off learning.

You need to decide whether you want nylon or steel strings. If you have no preference I would go for a steel string guitar. You do not need an expensive guitar made from solid timbers and with lots of decoration but you need a reasonable instrument suitable for a beginner. Buy from a music store, not on-line and not from a department store. Do not buy anything in a sealed box. You need to try the actual guitar you are going to buy, not just one like it. If possible take someone with you who plays, to advise you, or at least get the salesman/woman to play it for you. Get a spare set of strings and a tuner at the same time (you might get a better deal) and a strap and picks if you want them. Get them to show you how to use the tuner. There are lots of reasonable guitar brands for beginners but you might want to look at Yamaha, Jasmine or Epiphone. Good luck and have fun.

good dvd for acoustic guitar beginners?

Blink 182

ok so ive recently brought an acoustic guitar but ive never really playd 1 before is there any recomended dvd's to help me out?...thankyou! :D

Answer
The Acoustic Guitar Method is a very good DVD for beginners (http://www.homespuntapes.com/CatalogueRetrieve.aspx?ProductID=1015800&A=SearchResult&SearchID=304966&ObjectID=1015800&ObjectType=27). I'd recommend any of Homespun's DVDs. They've been doing acoustic guitar instruction for over 40 years, and their videos are outstanding. Great teachers, camera work, and and overall instruction. They've also got a new video for beginners with Steve Kaufman (http://www.homespuntapes.com/CatalogueRetrieve.aspx?ProductID=1679286&A=SearchResult&SearchID=282716&ObjectID=1679286&ObjectType=27), who is an incredible guitar player and a very popular and respected guitar teacher. So, this could be a good video, too, though his specialty is country and bluegrass guitar, and it looks like he does teach for the pure beginner in this video, but as it progresses it will focus on country and bluegrass playing.
They have several DVDs for beginners, so you should check those out and see what looks best to you.

There are also some great online guitar programs that are worth checking out, if you're considering going that route. Jamorama (http://6ebc8zrd8h8x2l6cigvblalq4a.hop.clickbank.net/) is a very good one.

Acoustic Guitar also has a downloadable video/pdf guide for beginners (http://www.stringletter.com/Shop/The-Beginner-s-Guide-to-Guitar-Complete-Edition) that is very good, too.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Good acoustic guitar for total beginners?

Waffle

I was thinking of getting an acoustic guitar just to mess around with and experience the joy of learning to play the instrument. I did some research and found that Gibson is the best brand. But there are so many choices to pick from! I want the average guitar, and not one that looks different or has some special feature. Can anyone recommend me an ACOUSTIC GUITAR for a beginner? Thank you so much! :)

Answer
There's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all guitar, so there's no such thing as a "best brand." Gibson makes solid instruments, but the necks on their acoustics are incredibly chunky, so many beginners (as well as advanced players) find them challenging or even impossible to play. Most guitarists are somewhat brand loyal, but if we all agreed about what made a great guitar, there wouldn't be more than one brand on the market.

The best thing you could do is go to a guitar store (not a store that happens to sell guitars, as well as general merchandise) and test drive a bunch of different guitars. If you compare a bunch of guitars side by side, chances are you'll find that some just feel more comfortable in your hands than others. Be sure to handle them while you're sitting down, as well, since that's probably how you'll practice. Some guitars have gigantic, deep bodies that sound fantastic, but those can be cumbersome to play while sitting. Smaller-bodied guitars won't throw enough sound to fill an auditorium, but they're infinitely more comfortable to play while sitting. Also, each brand tends to have its own feel. Gibson and Epiphone guitars are famous for having chunky necks, whereas Ibanez guitars are known for incredibly thin necks. Generally speaking, the thinner the neck, the easier it is to form chords and move smoothly between them. If you spend a few hours handling guitars, you'll be able to find one that feels like it belongs in your hands.

If you don't want to spend much, try some Jasmine by Takamine guitars. They're Takamine's entry-level line and they're great guitars for the price. The Ibanez Sage is another worth considering. Unlike most guitars in its price range, it has a solid wood top, which is the most important factor in determining sound quality. Frankly, the Sage would be a bargain at twice the price. It's the kind of guitar that will serve you for decades and you can hand it down to your children.

Ultimately, the way a guitar feels in your hands is more important than the name on the headstock or anyone else's opinion. Trust your instincts, since they'll serve you well. If you compare guitars made by respected musical instrument companies, you'll feel the differences between them and be able to find one particular guitar that seems to belong in your hands. That's the one to choose.

Should I learn Acoustic before I learn Electric Guitar?

Billy E

I'm looking to learn Electric Guitar over the next few years. I was just wondering if it's better to learn how to play regular Acoustic first?

Answer
Whether you learn on electric or acoustic guitar, you have to master the same skills. Both types of guitar are tuned and played the same way, so it's possible to learn on either one. I'm a believer in starting on acoustic for a few reasons.

Acoustic guitar is pure guitar. There are no electronics and amp to mess with. There are no effects like distortion to cover up poor technique. It can be a lot of fun to crank up an amp and pretend you're a rock star...even though you only know 3 chords. I've been there. It's also a distraction that can side-track you from actually learning.

Most beginners start out with an inexpensive guitar, then upgrade after they've learned to play. Since you don't need an amp to play acoustic, you can get a better guitar for the same money. Then, when you've mastered some basic skills and are ready to upgrade, you can get a decent electric...not some cheap beginner model and practice amp. Plus, you'll still have that acoustic to play outside or places where you don't have an amp. Believe me..no matter how into electric you are, you still will want an acoustic around the house.

Bottom line: you can learn on either acoustic or electric but there are good reasons to start on acoustic guitar.

How hard is it to learn acoustic guitar?

megan

(for a beginner)

Answer
Well acually , its much easyier to learn on a electric , because you dont have to push your fingers down as hard .
thats the worst part , just trying to keep your fingers down tight . other than that the acoustic is just fine to learn on , its pretty good and it has an awesome light folk sound .
and the guitar you picked is siqq yo !
