How do i read guitar sheet music, more info inside?

JD :)

Hi.
So i know what the notes are, and the bars, and the clefs, and the time signatures and everything and i know how to read tabs already.

I've been playing violin for 7 years, so i know what the stuff means.
But ive been learning guitar, and i got a book of sheet music today.
Its for vocals, piano and guitar.
So its got there bar lines in a box thing.
I think the top if for guitar, and then the middle line is piano and the bottom line is bass notes for the piano. Because the middle line and bottom line have a { at the start and a } at the end.
So ovbiosly there together.

So on the top line, its got all these notes and then it has like a little guitar tab ontop of it. But these small tabs are just in all kinds of different spots.
And i dont understand it.

Lets just say, the first bar has a tab ontop on it, and then the next tab is like 5 bars away. You cant play the first tab for 5 bars, because on the score, like the notes on the bars are changing. So doesnt that mean u have to change chords?

I really need help, i know this probably sounds so confuesing, but i need help!
thanks :)

Acoustic Guitar beginner?

IzzyDizzy

Hello,
I have learned some simple chords and looked at a few songs, but, sadly, I'm confused.
As I've been looking at the guitar tablature and chords, I began wondering what determines how FAST or SLOW you play the song. It's not like with the flute (which I played for the last few years) where you have half notes or quarter notes, that tell you how fast to play it. How is it with the guitar?
Thanks in advance!

Answer
You should learn to read real guitar sheet music. It has actual notes on it, say A or C, etc.. Tablature doesn't have how fast or slow the song should be. It's basically just the cheaters way into playing the guitar (if they know the song already it's easy just to put the notes into the rhythm).

Acoustic guitar tips. Who has some good tips?

Public Dis

ok so i am going to learn to play the guitar(acoustic) i have never even held one before but i am determined to learn. But before i take lessons i would like some idea of how to play, does anyone have any good tips. eg. where i can find a diagram of all the notes, how to pick out a guitar, where is a good place to buy one (i live in the Edmonton area), where i can find good sheet music, stuff like that. thanx

Answer
1. Find a qualified guitar instructor and buy a beginner's guitar chord book having basic music theory.

2. Have your instructor show the good habits to form in building chords and playing them, how to string a guitar, how to take care of your instrument, and how to tune it.

3. As you learn and practice forming various chords ask your instructor to teach you the basics of music theory.

4. As you progress, ask the instructor to help you in:

a. Chord progression
b. Key transposition
c. How to determine the key signatures in music.
d. Writing basic music notation.
e. Playing rhythm as he plays melodies and vice versa.
f. Learning the Chromatic Scale with chords and notes.

5. Practice rhythm and strumming techniques--both striking the fundamental bass tone and strumming down and then back up. Practice fingerstyle methods of right picking different strings in chord backup.

6. Keep your instrument clean and in good shape. Treat it better than you would your own body. Keep your hands clean and dry while playing. That cuts back on oily residues.

7. Watch other guitarists and their technique or style. Copy their methods up to the point of forming your own style.
And finally, your fingertips will hurt terribly until you can build the calluses on them. Until then, you must endure hours of practice. If you don't have the motivation and strong will to work past the problem of sore fingertips you will never be a guitarist.

I am just learning how to play the acoustic guitar. I really like the song Under the Milky Way by the Church and I would love to learn it. It is such a beautiful song and I think I will really enjoy learning how to play it. But I can't find easy to follow and understand sheet music for the guitar. Does anyone know the cords or a website that I can find the sheet music on for free?

Like I want to know how to tune it with a pitch pipe tuner and how to clean it. Care for it. Replace strings and quick if it is working good. And I want to get like a few sheets of chords or notes of the Acoustic Guitar for beginners because I just brought a Acoustic Guitar and i do not know how to play, care, clean, tune, and stuff. Like i want music to follow with also. Thanks

Answer
Your best option is to visit your local music store, state your position as a beginner, and ask for what you need. Guitar lessons from an accredited teacher would be a plus for you.

Where can I find music for drunken sailor?

acoustic guitar beginner sheet music image
Q. Where can I find sheet music that I can print online for the song "What shall we do with a drunken sailor" for acoustic guitar? I'm trying to teach myself how to play, and I can do chords and everything, but I need a song to play and I wanted to try it out. Also, any other reccomendations for beginner songs to play? I need something simple, like only three different chords or so in the whole thing and a simple strumming pattern, I'm still starting out. Thanks!

Answer
I don't know where you can find the sheet music, but I'm a renaissance (pirate) performer and we do that song, so I can tell you the chords. It's a 2 chord song, E minor and D.

(Em) what shall we do with a drunken sailor
(D) what shall we do with a drunken sailor
(Em) what shall we do with a drunken sailor
(D) early in the (Em) morning.

This chord progression repeats through the song.

Where can I find sheet music for guitar for the acoustic version of Rhinestone Eyes by The Gorillaz?

Finn

Title says it all. Electric guitar if that matters. I'm kind of a beginner but any sheet music will be fine as long as it's for guitar.
