What are some good acoustic-electric guitars for 200-500 dollars?

I need a good, not cheap acoustic-electric guitar in the 200-500 dollar range. I don't want to buy a really expensive guitar but I also don't want to buy a cheap 50 dollar guitar. I need a guitar that at least sounds good. Any suggestions?

Cheap guitars can be found anywhere. Finding an inexpensively-priced instrument of good quality is much more difficult.

Start visiting guitar websites to research good instruments in your price range then you will have a nice starting point to find a guitar that will suit your needs. Talk with other guitar players and ask their advice also. Most will have their favorite brand but you can learn much from their experiences with first guitars.
"Cheap" guitars are more difficult to play and don't hold their tune. These problems may sour your enthusiasm for learning to play.

I paid less than $200 for a lightly used Washburn D-12 acoustic/electric at Music-Go-Round. This is a nice entry level instrument and is a good player.

I think the best place to look for a cheap but good guitar is in the pawn shops where you can examine it, try it yourself, and bargain for the price. Many musicians sold good used guitars to the pawn shops. Go for it, you will get a cheap but good one.

I'm in the US, so I don't know what stores you have around you. Look in the pawn shops and music stores for a used guitar. A good used guitar will sell for about 1/3 to 1/2 the new price. Check your local want ads and craigslist (if there is one there). You can also find used guitars on eBay. Are you looking for an electric or acoustic guitar for your son?
