Whats the cheapest Gibson Acoustic Guitar?

Ali

One that wont break out on me. I want a cheap one (around 100$?) thats good for beginners. Its for my 12-year old sister, so I dont want it to be huge.

Id also like it if it had the sunburst color, but yeah. Id like a cheap one, that wont die in a second, reliable, all that kind of stuff. Help=love

Answer
The cheapest Gibson guitar is the Songmaker at around $1000. They put their name on the Maestro, but as others have rightly pointed out, they are complete junk and not worth the money. Epiphone is a Gibson's licensed clone and they make guitars similar to actual Gibsons at a much lower price. The DR100 is the cheapest Epiphone acoustic at around $100 and is much better than the Maestro but still not a very good guitar for a beginner. Epiphones (and Gibsons) have fat necks and are harder for beginners with smaller hands to play. I think you'd be much better off spending your $100 on a Takamine Jasmine like this one:

You won't find any guitar with a solid top for $100 and the Takamine Jasmine is a very decent laminate top guitar that plays pretty nice for that low price. Sure, it would be better to spend $200 to get a Yamaha FG700S with a solid spruce top, but if $100 is your limit, the Takamine Jasmine is your best bet. You won't get a real Gibson for that and you should avoid those horrible cheap Maestro and First Act guitars like the plague. I've had students come to me already having bought those guitars and they are just horrid.

Where can I buy a cheap acoustic guitar?

EDEN P

I'm trying to find a cheap acoustic guitar around 100-200 dollars, thats good quality and will last me a long time, until I can afford to buy a another better one.
Its for a beginner

Answer
Cheap guitars can be found anywhere. Finding an inexpensively-priced instrument of good quality is much more difficult.

Start visiting guitar websites to research good instruments in your price range then you will have a nice starting point to find a guitar that will suit your needs. Talk with other guitar players and ask their advice also. Most will have their favorite brand but you can learn much from their experiences with first guitars.
"Cheap" guitars are more difficult to play and don't hold their tune. These problems may sour your enthusiasm for learning to play.

I paid less than $200 for a lightly used Washburn D-12 acoustic/electric at Music-Go-Round. This is a nice entry level instrument and is a good player.

What is a cheap, but good acoustic guitar?

J

I currently have a nice electric guitar, and I've been playing for about a year, but I'm looking into buying an acoustic. I'm not doing great on funds, so I'm trying to find a cheap, yet reliable guitar. Any recommendations? I don't mind the brand, as long as it doesn't cost too much, and sounds good.

Answer
I agree with the previous answer: "cheap" and "good" are mutually exclusive when talking about guitars. You'll find that most "cheap" guitars are "reliable" though, just not very good in the first place!

You'll be able to find plenty reasonably-priced/inexpensive guitars that are okay though. I have no experience of Eastman guitars but have heard good things about them. Googled "Eastman guitars" and found an acoustic at over £400 (I'm in The UK) - not "cheap".

What are some really good but cheap acoustic guitars for beginners?

Ms. Pengui

I'm looking to buy an acoustic guitar, but I'm feeling really overwhelmed with all of the choices. I want to start out cheap now then upgrade to something better in a few years. I'd like to buy one that is around $100, but I'm willing to consider some that are around $200 (but not over) since good guitars might be hard to find under $100. I'm not looking for stores to buy from, just the names of some good beginner acoustic guitars.

Answer
there is no such thing as a "really good" cheap guitar. you can get a decent entry level guitar for under $200.00, but you need to be careful, as these are mass produced and probably one out of ten has issues straight from the factory. If you already know how to play, make sure there are no dead spots, and that the neck is not warped or in dire need of a set up. If you do not already play, find someone who does that you trust to help you pick one out.

After working at a guitar store for 10 years, I'd say Yamaha or Epiphone is your best bet for an entry level acoustic guitar.

I recently abducted this relatively cheap acoustic guitar made by Silvertone. It's an ok guitar i guess, but from time to time the strings get really "buzzy" or "fuzzy". I'm aware that there are many factors for this "fuzzy" sound but should I replace these stock strings? If so, what strings are recommended?

Answer
Pust D'addario Phosphor bronze strings if you want a good acoustic guitari sound. For the buzzing, that may be due to a need for a neck adjustment.
If you hold the first fret down with the index , and the 15th fret with the other hand, there should be a clearance of 1/8th at the 7th fret between fingerboard and strings.

If the string touches the neck, the truss rod needs to be loosen 1/4 turn counter-clockwise. That should solve the problem. Use the allen key that came with the guitar to do that.

If the string is too far or more than 1/8", you would need to turn the key clockwise 1/4 turn. I doubt that this is the problem. If it buzzes, the truss rod is too tight and needs to be loosen.

What strings should I buy for my acoustic guitar?

I have a cheap acoustic guitar that I play once in a while but the strings that I have on it are too thick and hurt my fingers. What type of strings would be recommended for playing songs from bands like All time low, the acadey is, fall out boy etc.

Answer
Well, no matter what type of music you play, you will enjoy playing guitar more if you buy light-grade strings. In my opinion, the brand doesn't really make that much of a difference either. Light or extra-light strings are less thick than conventional strings and still make the same sound.

Some people argue that light strings have a small difference in tone, but if you're a beginner you probably won't even notice it.

If you want to get some nice strings, I recommend Light Elixir strings with Polyweb Coating. Elixir is one of the few guitar string companies where I see a noticeable difference in the tone of the guitar. Also, the Polyweb coating makes it easier to slide on the strings without squeaking.

Where to get a cheap acoustic guitar online?

Will R

I'm looking into painting some guitars but I don't want to use my own so I was wondering if anyone knows where to get a cheap acoustic guitar from for £20 or less?

Answer
You won't find anything new that's playable for that. If you check the classified ads, you might find something used for that, but that's still pretty low ball. If you aren't willing to spend at least 50 pound, then you don't really want to play guitar. there's no free lunch mate.
