Like, I have an acoustic or rather semi-acoustic guitar and I can plug it into an amp, it also has like this pre-amp thing. But I found out there are like special amps for this kind of guitar. Why is that?

Answer
Your acoustic-electric will work with any guitar amp. The so called "acoustic" amps are pretty much the same as a guitar amp except they have a few extra features. Since acoustic players often play solo, many of the acoustic amps have a separate channel designed for a microphone. The EQ settings may be tailored more for acoustic also, but a normal guitar amp will be fine.

The type of pickup used on acoustic-electric guitars isn't as "powerful" as the magnetic pickups on electric guitars. The purpose of the "pre-amp" on your guitar is to boost the signal from your guitar pickup. It also allows you to adjust volume and tone.

What kind of acoustic guitar would you recommend for a girl?

I was wanting to purchase an acoustic guitar, but I am not sure on what brand and I am looking for a cheap price since it is my first one. Also I don't want one that is for a child..
Thanks!

Answer
