I have asked my parents for a guitar for my birthday, and I have never played before. What is the best type of guitar? I am 14, and small, so it has to be small.

And under the 200$ price range?

Answer
The best thing you could do is go to a guitar store and test drive a bunch of different guitars, since each brand tends to have its own feel. Since you're 14 and a beginner, you'll probably do better with a guitar that has a really thin neck and low action (strings close to the fretboard), since those things will make it much easier and more comfortable to move smoothly between chords.

Ibanez makes fantastic guitars that are built like rocks, sound great and are often nicer than guitars costing twice as much. They've also got incredibly thin necks and low action, so they're popular with beginners, females and guitarists with small hands. Jasmine by Takamine guitars are also very user-friendly and priced great. I'd avoid anything made by Epiphone, though. They're great guitars, but have really chunky necks that make them challenging to play.

Here are some links to guitars worth considering:

If you read the reviews, you'll find that these guitars are popular with beginners who consider the body size ideal and the necks thin. If a full-size guitar proves too big for you, consider getting a 7/8-size one, since those are slightly smaller, but close enough to full-size that you'll be able to make a smooth transition when you grow a bit more. Good luck and happy birthday!

how much does a guitar cost for a beginner?

I'm just beginning to play and i want to get my own and im just wondering how much a basic acoustic guitar might cost?

Answer
You should be aiming about between 100-200 and an Ibanez is the perfect start in terms of price and sound. You can do all styles and check 'gio' models extra affordable, ideal for beginners. Cheap copies of fender and Gibson are cheap but not worth the sound.

Good luck and happy hunting
