How should I know when to change the strings on my guitar?

I bought my very first guitar in the beginning of July 2013. I play my guitar almost everyday. I sometimes do not have time to play everyday but when I do I play for about 1 hour to 2 hours. I wash my hands before I play my guitar but I do not always wipe the off after I play (I know I should). I haven't really noticed any dis-colorization on my strings (maybe a little bit on my G string).
Well just yesterday one of my sisters strings popped (I think it was the G-string, yes I know :)).
I was wondering, should I change my strings also? I've had my guitar for about 5 months and play it almost everyday.
If so, what are good, rich, sounding strings? I have an acoustic guitar: Yamaha FG700S.

How about taking it in to be serviced at a musical instrument store? That way if you don't need to replace your strings, you will most likely pay less. I had an acoustic about 3 years ago (lasted me almost 15 years). I played it more the first 5 years that I had it. The "G" string was broken on mine when I got rid of it. I'd love to have another one someday. The strings isn't what makes the music good & rich. It's how well you move between chords and move your fingers.
