Hi,Look for a tutor called 'Bert Weedons Play In A day'.It may be out of print, but you should get one cheap enough on eBay.It is very easy to understand, and you should be able to soon play something. All the best Kevin

Answer
I think people are thinking you want to teach her how to play "classical" guitar music.

I have never really seen any of the "how to" videos, (except for ones on youtube, which can be good or bad. some of them are done by amateurs who "think" they can play guitar)
If you get a professionally done DVD it should be OK
You'll want just a standard video on how to play folk guitar.
I didn't have those options when I learned in the late 60's. Just guitar instruction books by Mel Bay.

A nylon stringed guitar is actually good for beginners. The strings are softer and easier to play and it gives the beginner a better chance to succeed. I learned guitar on a 3/4 sized classical guitar when I was 9 yrs old. I think it's the best way to start out.
You can play all the popular acoustic songs still, you can use a pick. It does not "sound" like a steel string guitar, but your stepdaughter can still learn to play the songs.
After she gets good and doesn't lose interest, you can upgrade to a nice steel string acoustic or electric guitar (as I did)

Don't expect that she will just start playing after a couple of weeks, either. I takes months before a beginner really starts to get comfortable and confident with chord changes.

Also I recommend getting her a few beginner lessons from a real teacher, to show the proper way to hold the guitar and to position the hands and fingers correctly. That way, early questions can be answered. DVD's don't talk back or answer questions.
